It seems to me that Joel is used as the whipping boy for the team by a few people.
People happily bag him then arc up if one word is said against Richo.
This happened in the chatroom last night when I was questioned about thinking Joel's game against the Hawks was far from the worst in the team, yet Richo's game was defended.
Despite the fact I don't rate stats that highly I looked up yesterdays game to see if I was so far out in my thinking.
Richo had 14 possessions, 10 marks, 6 clangers and gave away 2 50's. He kicked 2 goals and had a HeraldSun ranking of 71.
Joel had 21 possessions, 7 marks and 1 clanger. He kicked 2 goals 1 and had a HeraldSun ranking of 118.
It makes me wonder why people are so down on Joel, but blindly accept anything Richo dishes out.
I'm sure we all think Joel's a bit lazy and casual, but why is he bagged so much when he's in our top half a dozen players most weeks.
Do we judge him on what we think he should be rather than look at what he actually contributes?
P.S. I've never been Joel's biggest fan, in fact went against the flow a few years ago when everyone thought he was our future captain. I just don't understand some attitudes towards him. No matter what he does he's always bagged.
