PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

It makes me a bit sad to see Joel bagged on here like he has been the last few weeks.

I'm the first to admit he's been a very casual footballer who has got the ball easily and not used it well, but there's no way he's as bad a footballer as he's been playing recently.

Joel's stats have been up in the high 20's most weeks of his career. If he turns it over 6 times that still leaves him using the ball to our advantage a lot more than most others in our team.

He hasn't got the ball nearly as much the last few weeks, he hasn't used it as well when he's had it. His heart obviously hasn't been in it.

I've posted before I heard an interview about him before the Geelong game that I didn't like. I thought then it seemed odd to publicly critisise a player we wanted out there to win a game for us and get our season back on track. Maybe Joel needed telling, but I think that's better done behind closed doors.

I blame the coaching for Joel's casualness to a large degree. When he's obviously needed a good rocket he's been left to his own devices out there. No obvious disclipine at all. If Joel had been benched or dropped a few times he might have realised he needed to pull his finger out instead of just motoring along on cruise control.

To be honest I wouldn't have a clue, but to me Joel is playing like a shattered man. It would be wrong if history remembered Joel like he's playing at the moment.

He has the potential to be anything but probably needed a good kick up the bum to help achieve it.

Joel isn't as bad as he's playing lately, and I suspect there are good reasons for it.

I won't be surprised if Joel isn't at Tigerland next season.
