We botched the pick, plain and simple. Not wanting to pump up PRE but the majority disagreed with the pick from the get go.

Really nothing more to say about that one. Just have to hope he makes some kind of impace over the long term.

So many other players around that pick could have helped us big style.

And Clever is still just a battler.

At this point the 2005 draft gets a massive thumbs down.

Some people are a bit short sighted JON & Hughes are both only in their second years as footballers are both taller types which take longer to develop JON has not had a preseason & Hughes has shown very small climpses!! Footballers develop a different rates look at McIntosh & Petrie not all are Chris Judd's & Jono Browns.

Cleve Hughes needs his own thread but really how can you call him a battler already.
10 career games for 11 career goals and he has barely played over half a game in any of them. He is a 2nd year tall and he spent most of this year "learning" how to play in the backline at coburg. Let him play forward for a whole game at Coburg without Schulz, Kingsley and/or Riewoldt there and see what he does.

I have not written him of just yet an have seen improvment in a lot of aspects of his game but his kicking just dosent get better (at this point),an guy's who havent seen him play much he is not trying to spear 40 metre pass's his atempting 20 metre chips most times.

Though some may disagree guys like Pato an Mcguane though still not "lace out "kicks they have both improved a great deal as for JON not at this stage

Cop out, we picked the wrong buy at 8, not his fault it 's Francis. He botched it, will happen from time to time.

Steamer still has time but right now he is struggling.

So like I said at this point, we are playing with a losing hand from 2005. It may change long term like I posted. I don't think anyone would be happy with how it has panned out.

IMHO the worst of our indeginous players, but has more then one of them of making a career at AFL level
Bit surprised in you saying this CC considering JON didnt have a pre-season at all
Agree,I'm hopeful with a good pre-season 2008 will be a good year for JON.

whilst i went mad we took him where we did lets not forget jon does have talent and some outstanding attributes to play modern afl footy.until he gets some genuine strength and size he is going to struggle against bigger bodies at the top level. some may laugh at me for saying this but i liken jons situation to xavier ellis at hawthorn although ellis was and is a for more rounded player than jon. ellis at 187cm and 70kg was always going to take time to develop hes over 80 kg now but still skinny as a rake and lacks that core strength that you need to compete at the top level a number 3 pick i ask how many senior games has he played. the thing is everyone knows in time he will be a decent player over the next couple of yrs he will be in and out of the hawks team while his body becomes accustomed to the rigours of afl.
jon 188cm 74 kg when he was drafted talk about a stick i have him at 189cm and 82kg like ellis he has a long way to go as far as getting his body right to play at the top level goes. over the next couple of yrs he will also be in and out of the seniors he will grow as his body develops it takes time. richie tambling is another in this boat with his body i think hes done quite well up to now. one thing is for sure both these boys need to be in the gym working on core strength and building some size.

Agree - by 2009 JON will be holding downing CHB and playing very good footy - reminds me of Johnson from Freo...
