Josh Thurgood

Thurgood is an interesting one.

190cms, 70kg, 20yo.
That's significantly lighter than our Meyer, and our Meyer is only 183/4cms.

In his 2 years on the Hawthorn list, he managed 11 games, had two excellent games & 2 average games in 2005. Only 2 poor games in 2006. Methinks injury has been the key.

A year off would do him good, to shake off injury & to build his body up to about 85kgs.
Then, at the end of 2007, he could present himself to a few clubs for testing and may get a 2nd chance.

Yeah, that's pretty much the thrust of the article in the Hun today. Get some muscle and then get a game. Terry would love his run and carry (had that in bucketloads), but at the moment he's a linkman only as his delivery is shocking - needs to develop muscle and a penetrating accurate kick to be of value. The key is whether he is teachable!

I too was surprised the Hawks let him go as they were really pumping him earlier this season as a courageous youngster with a future.

Thats the point. He is courageous, however, going in hard and being light weight will cause injury problems.

Saw a photo of him in the paper.Definite pass.

Agreed! Very bloody skinny!!

So were both Bruce Tempany & David Glascott.
The game's a bit quicker now & the hits come harder! And BTW, I don't reckon they were as skinny as Sideshow Bob. Do you seriously think he can get to 85 kgs by the end of next year? He can't put weight on as it is, let alone stacking it on in one year - unless of course he takes time out of the game to boost his weight gain problem with some special "supplements"
