Journo on PRE...Careful what you post.

As for me outing the journo I don't think that would be ethical for an admin to do that. I think it's reasonable for anyone registering on a website to assume anonymity. I've mentioned actual names of people making legal threats before but only when they've contacted me off-site. As I said I only got the journo's phone number because he used the report to moderator function. He didn't contact me personally as he did to others on the site.

The journo has had his posting history deleted and he can no longer post or PM people on PRE. There's no room here for such underhanded tactics imo.

The purpose of this thread wasn't to out anyone but rather to alert people to the legal implications of what is posted and to request than unless something is in the public domain it's a lot safer not to name names.

I think the best action was taken here Rosy and that's ban him. Who cares who he is anyway? Can't be much of a journo if he has to resort to these sort of tactics to write his stories.
