PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

A journo from a large Melb paper, no names but he wouldn't exactly be on RFC's Christmas Card list, registered on PRE last week with the specific purpose of contacting a few posters in trying to dig up some dirt on a player. Thankfully none of those he contacted responded to him but I thought it worth mentioning that what is posted on here reaches a wider audience so people make more effort to keep things factual rather than name people in speculative accusations.

The journo used the 'report to moderator' function in his search for info so in effect his message, including his phone number, went to all admins and moderators on PRE. I rang him last night in regard to what I thought were pretty underhanded tactics. Let's just say he didn't agree but, as I told him, we obviously have different moral and ethical standards. I don't have much time for anyone who tries to dig up scuttlebutt or uses questionable tactics to get interviews which this person has done before imo.

The journo's tactics above are the exception rather than the rule from my experience. I've often been contacted up front by journos asking for an opinion or clarification about info posted on our site. No issues with that whatsoever.

On a similar vein I was contacted recently advising me comments on a different thread were not only false but were slanderous. Both threads in question have been deleted, not only because of unfounded accusations, but because of legal implications.

This message is just a reminder that we need to be a bit careful what we say on here. PRE is read far and wide. ;)
