Put this up on another post and thought it was worth a topic of its own. Its not just the yellow and black that misses out on the Brownlow, it would appear that any team without red in its jumper also misses out.

Team Medals Red
Sydney 13 Y
St Kilda 10 Y
Western Bulldogs 9 Y
Fitzroy 8 Y (apparently maroon is red)
Essendon 8 Y
Collingwood 8
Melbourne 7 Y
Richmond 5
Kangaroos 5
Hawthorn 4
Geelong 4
Carlton 4
Brisbane 3 Y (3 from 19 years already above average)
West Coast 1
Adelaide 1 Y (1 from 14 years already above average)
Port Adelaide 0
Fremantle 0 Y Don't be surprised if Pav pulls it from nowhere tonight.

BJ, I know you love your stats but this one is just too far out there. Maybe we should get Mulder and Scully into investigate this one.... :hihi :hihi

I've often had this kind of stat thrown at me. Mainly that the Swans have won so many because they are the only predominantly white team in the comp. But I don't know. It doesn't matter does it? There are only two teams out there. If one team stands out, who do they stand out against? In theory, the other team stands out just as much.

The top 3 teams are also 3 of the most unsuccessful teams (5 premierships and probably less than 10 grand finals between them). You just need 1 or 2 stars/champions to play well in unsuccessful teams and not have to worry about teammates taking votes off you, to win a Brownlow. And this is not to denigrate any past winners by the way.

i remember reading a report years ago about an investigation into what makes the aussies so successful at team sports on the world stage and the report suggested that the colour yellow instills confidence and winning. it might explain the success of brisbane, adelaide, westcoast

cant explain why richmond and hawks are so bad though

Most esteemed fellow feral B.J.
Ive done a lot of research and given a tremendous amount of mental servitude to this particular post, espoused all the permutations, undertook the enrichment and activation of the entipities of my rather under-utilised mind, and therefore, have come to a very salubrious conclusion, youll be happy to note!
Yes,in the wisdom and the cultural bias that is rampant in our society towards the inexplicable preference for anything, red, burgundy, scarlet, hot pink,or any thing that vaguelly resembles a flame filled tinge that really gets my blood boiling, makes me RED with deep anger, resentment and a rather cynical view of the status quo.......about time for all things gold and black to etch itself pemenantely on the sporting and cultural morass that envelops us....so speaketh Nitro........ :P

Haha nitro...not quite sure what you said but you've proved beyong doubt you're the real deal and not some cheap imitation.  :rotfl

Have read a very similar thing a few years back but it was actually red the color they were mentioning.

Red is an aggresive color that, in theory, puts a slight doubt into the oppositions mind's.

Take a look around the world and the most succesfull sporting clubs/organisations, a hell of a lot of them have alot of red in their colors.

Obviously this was what the Zimbabwean cricket board were thinking when they decided to alienate all of the guys who could actually play the game. "Don't worry, we wear red, we'll SCARE them out! Who needs talent?" :hihi
