Junior talls at the various clubs.

With much talk of why we need to go tall in the next draft, I thought I'd put up a comparative table of junior players 195cm or over at the various clubs.

Personally, it is how didderent clubs set themselves up with junior talls that govern how successful their future structures will be.

I'd be interested in your observations & opinions.

Nice tables, but I think to get a true picture you need to list the 191-194 kids at each club also. If you look at most teams alot of KPPs fall into this bracket.

Does Rix (StK) qualify as a jnr? And what are his current build stats?
Cheers

Fair comment.
I'll proceed on that now.

Herewego.

I hope I've formatted this correctly.
Because of width restrictions, I've deleted the height & position fields.

I find it interesting to note the distribution of the ages within each group.
Some clubs take 1 or 2 talls each year.
Others show a particular bias in a year.
Mind you, the age is not an accurate indicator of when the player was taken.

Great work. Very interesting and hard to really draw conclusions from without further analysis of where teams are at overall.

Looks to me like the magic number in that first post Phanto is 5. Most clubs have 5 developing guys 195cm+. We have 2. :help

Just wondering why the Brown at collingwood is 18 yet his brother is 17? :hihi :hihi

Maybe I did the Collingwood & Westcoast analyses on different days. ;)

This is also a good indicator of which clubs we may be competing against for talls in the next draft.

Funny how the dogs have the image of been a short team yet they have so much height on there list, just proves no point havin a heap of talls if they cant play ;D.

Thanks Phanto :clap

Remember CC, we are looking at junior talls (18-21yo), not mature (25-27) or developing (22-24) talls.

Over the last 3 years, the Bullies have been setting themselves up for the future.

Hey Phantom,
Does David Hale qualify at the roos?
(the reason we lost our under18 granny)

I've got David Hale just out of the junior (18-21) section and into the developing (22-24) section.

There's a few good teams on the list with less than 5. Melbourne (1), Freo (1), Collingwood (1), West Coast (3) and St Kilda (3) all played finals last year.

True, but remember that we are looking at juniors, ie how well clubs are set up for talls in the future.

Not judging results a year ago, but how teams are likely to be structured in 3-4 years time.

One of the major points of this theme is that talls command a premium from a trade perspective.

Look at what Hawthorn extracted for Hay, Thompson and Everitt over successive years despite their age. Similarly Port got a great deal for Barry Brooks off the Saints a few years ago.

This is one reason I am frustrated at our current lack of ruckmen. Even more frustrating is that Rix and McKinnon were at Coburg and are now at other clubs. Whilst their not champion they provide depth.

Phantom your obsession with talls is overboard I think. The game is moving towards 4 good talls and the rest runners. Give me 18 quality midfielders eg WC and they will make a half decent tall (Lynch & Hansen) look like a Jason Dunstall with their skills.

My other point is with Patto. Is he a ruckman or KPP. I have a bit of time for him but I think his position is in the ruck. If we are hoping for him to be a KPP then we are in a bit of trouble.
