Planning would be well under way for the PREtend Cup. There seems to be a real air of expectation that things are chaging for the better at Tigerland and finals next season is more of a possibility than it is just wishful thinking.

Given that how important do people think it is to do well in the pre-season comp? Would our emphasis be on winning and hopefully attracting members and sponsors with an exciting start or should we treat it more like a training session for the real thing?

I'm opting for experiment with players and positions while trying to be very competitive. A winning culture can be infectious and I'd love to see the players have a win under their belts before we flog Carlton in Rd 1.

Win at all costs but without Bowden, Brown, Johnson, Mcmahon, Richo and Simmonds, at least before Rd 3.

Try to win, but not at any cost.

Try out the fringe players who are fighting it out for a spot in Rd 1, while getting some game time into everyone else. Look after the old fellas like JB, Richo, Sugar, Simmo, Browny..

if wallace was voting he would vote the last option.
Personaly i'd like to see some change ups- in the midfield have lots of white and thomson, i would have said bling but if is injured. Patto and gus to play in the ruck. Rance, jon, cleve and connors get lots of time on ground

Certainly refreshing to see another thread on the boards.

I think we should try to win at all costs.
The club could certainly benefit from the prize money in these difficult times.

I think we should try to win at all cost while experimenting with positions. I believe if we have sucess it will be confidence for the boys to do well during the season.

I voted "Win at all costs" but if the 2nd option is "experiement with player positions while trying o be very competitive" then I'd pick that.

I want us to go in and not embarass ourselves in the first match like we have every single year since Wallace joined the club.

I would prefer us to "win at all costs" than to "experiement" but idealy I want to experiment with a competitive mindset.

Agree

Where is the "Play Ben Cousins in a number of positions to see where he can be best utilised with respect to our needs and style of play" option?

Concentrate on the kids, doesn't matter win or lose, just how you play the game.

I would still like to win but if we don't it isn't the end of the world. We play the Shockers first up so maybe give the kids a taste of the big oval over there.

Always play to win. Everytime a yellow and black jumper runs out onto a football field, mickey mouse footy or not, it should be worn and supported 100% by players and coaches alike.

I like the experimentations in the pre-season comp in terms of giving kids opportunities. However they should not be treated like practice games or intra-club games.

The time for serious positional experimenting is in the pre-season, not a a game or two of mickey mouse stuff.

Developing a winning culture and taking the prize money would help our club and young players a lot more than concentrating on super raw kids or playing people in experimental positions too much.

As much as I am for win at all times, I must admit I cringe everytime we play these games, NOTHING is worse than having important players get seriously injured in mickey mouse stuff before the game is even started. I think you can do more harm than good though when you start overtly protecting players/sides.
