Watched all of the Kangaroos GFs of the 70s live.
They were a great side.
1. Dench was the best FB that I've seen in my lifetime. That Prelim against Hudson in 1977 was the ultimate game by a FB.
2. Arnie Briedis was a favourite of mine. Kicked 5 goals in each of their winning GFs, and kicked 0.7 and was still BOG in the drawn one.
3. Burns in the centre was a terrific hard ball getter.
4. Cable, ran around the ground, Bartlett-like, picking up and delivering easy possies.
5. Greig was good too, but Woody always beat him on a wing.
6. Crosswell was the key to their premierships. Always did the job that had to be done. A great footballer, almost the equal of Royce Hart.
7. Blight, great in H&A games, useless in finals.
My favourite North side of the 70s:
B: Henshaw Dench Gumbleton
HB: Montgomery Crosswell Rantall
C: Greig Burns Schimmelbusch
HF: Icke Briedis Blight
F: Wade Baker Cable
R: Keenan Byrne Cassin
I: Nolan Chisnall Feltham Sutton (Even though there were only 2 ressies in those days.)
E: Dempsey Cowton Nettlefold
I'm sure I've accidentally left 1 or 2 out.
Dempsey's career was nearly over by the time he got to North, and Barry Davis was gone by the time North got there.
Besides, Dempsey saved games, but he never won them.
