Kayne Pettifer - Time to stand up!!!

Pettifer is vastly improved and is now one of the top forward flankers in the competition. Just a notch below O'Keefe, who is similar in alot of ways, but more well rounded with his hardness and defensive side. If Kayne continues to improve he could make all-australian this year.

Fair bit of "grass is greener" in this thread as every team in the comp would love to have Pettifer in their side, despite the areas he could improve on.

Transfer the above post to game for a laugh.

HE has his good points yes but he has areas that need to be improved upon.

So does every player on the list. It is not a shocking thing that each player has areas that need improving. If we say Lids needs to improve his defensive side why is so bad to say the same thing about Kayne.

Kayne is one of the leaders of the club, he has a chance to win a B&F, he can be a gun not only for our club but in the competition, eat 'em alive Kayne..................ssssnnniiifffffff.

If its the AA part your laughing at,

In 2006 - I have no doubt in the first 15 rounds Kayne would have been very much in peoples thoughts for selection. He taperered off very much after that though.

I just hope he maintains his form from 2006. I think he will find it harder to star with Browny in the team. As effective as he is, I actually see a little less from Kayne posession wise with Browny demanding the ball again.

Good post.

Pettifer has what it takes. His weakness is his mind. If he didn't beat himself up so much when he stuffed up he'd have the confidence to become a 60+ goal kicker.

Phew.. first post off the mark...

That's one of the reasons O'Keefe is considered one of the best players in one of the best teams in the comp.
His workrate is huge offensively AND defensively. Watch him play closely sometime, he's the complete footballer. He busts his balls to put pressure on the opposition and do the team things. This is a huge difference between the Swans/Eagles of the comp and the Tigers.

I agree Petiffer has improved many aspects of his game but he is still lazy.
If you a look at Kayne's stats in the tackles and 1%s department, he is well towards the bottom of our list, and this for a team that is the worst in the comp in these areas.

I think size really does matter. Although Petts plays like O'Keefe he is actually considerably shorter. I think that this impacts the way he plays in that he is conscious of his comparative lack of physical presence - he doesn't go out of his way to get tangled/beaten up.

I look forward to seeing him recapture some of the electric form he had last year. He will be our most valuable link to Brown - I don't see Brown's presence in the team detracting from Pettifer at all.

To compare O'Keefe & Pettifer is ridiculous.O'Keefe is a class above Pettifer

No doubt he is a better player, but Pettifer is basically on the next level down as an AFL forward flanker. Why wouldn't you compare the two?

there is a massive gap between top and second level flankers then

Certainly with this example.

I think after years of Pettifer-bashing (which he deserved) you guys haven't come to terms with the fact he is now a decent player.....if you can name all those vastly superior forward flankers going around go ahead!
