The following stats are from an AFL record August 2006. Matty was second in disposal effectiveness amongst all of our midfielders and way above AFL midfielder averages. Obviously not the hopeless case a few, even at that time, were making him out to be.

PlayerKE%HE%Disposal%
Whitey82.986.783.9
AFL midfield average 75.383.378.7

KE+kicking efficiency HE= handball efficiency

i think that White is the sort of player who we have a lot of. In a good side, he's slot in and do a good job, but he would be in and out of the side and would be a spare parts player.

Problem is that in a bad side where a losing mentality is prevalent and confidence is low he looks slow and doesn't do enough with his limited possessions.

He isn't alone in this regard.

Just want to play the Devils advocate a little here so please dont ban me Rosy :hihi

I was at the training day where Whitey was picked from, an as I said to, I think Red an Evo on the day the fuzzy haired kid is the only one I'd take, I like the boy.

But I can understand why some have said delist, yes we all love his endevour an hardness an of course RJ has every right to be a very very proud Father at the way his son conducts him self at becoming an AFL footballer.
My biggest issue is what possie do's he play at the top level ?,I personally have question marks over his disposal at pressure pact AFL,now as many PRE people who I go to the footy with would know I support all our boys 110% even Hydey :hihi but forgetting stats I have seen with my own eyes many times poor turnovers from him by foot coming off half back, now lets be fair all players do it an you can get away with having a couple of hard nuts in the team who's skills are not quiet spot on but I see much bigger value in guys like Patto an Lace out then a 5 11 player,as we already have the stronger bodied mids i.e Jacko,Tuck an Cogs.

I have seen Whitey play very well at VFL level but once again my question marks come from games like the weekend where whitey did a good job not great on shutting down, as per the week before, problem for me is that the kid he was on is not on an AFL list an Charlie Gardiner is a very fringe AFL player an most likley delisted at the end of the year,I also saw Ross Young who is now delisted by Carlton have the better of Whitey earlier this year,It just simply worries me if a player cant beat VFL players in a shut down role how can they make it at AFL level.

I have been wrong many many times or atleast twice :hihi no seriously more then ever I hope Whitey proves me wrong an I hope I have put a fair argument accross on a RFC player though it be on a more negative then possitive scale

Matty might never be considered for a shut-down role at Richmond though. It's not a criteria all players are judged by or we'd have a pretty empty list.

I should say Rosy it's not just a Whitey thing its more a general thing if players cant beat VFL players on a regualr basis Im not sure what chance they would have at been up to AFL standard.
In hindsight Kingy tore his opponents a new one just about every game last year, how could anbody have thought Kingy wasn't up to it ;D

Rimau, you've lost all my respect after that essay.

Can't believe you married someone who's dad played for Collingwood. What were you thinking?

Very nice game by Matty today. That's what I envisage him doing for the RFC ie using his pace and dash off the hbf and getting it into our forward line quickly.
