If he provides value in an up-graded draft pick, well he is only a hff.

Otherwise, he is one of the few players we have that can take clean possession at hf.

was going to have a rant but wont. lets just get rid of the dud. delist.

This type of comment is the very reason you are little more than a keyboard warrior and not in charge of recruitment at a professional level. For all your bluster and vitriol, your hatred of Pettifer has clouded you ability to identify an opportunity to upgrade a pick and instead put us in the market for a Rance or McEvoy. Instead of seeing Kane's form as a bonus come trade time, you play it down so much so that rival clubs would be reluctant to part with a Christmas hamper and a handshake. Wake up my friend and smell the roses, Pettifer could be the key to getting the extra pick we desperately need.
dont mention roses around here mate so many people are affected by them. and please stop overvaluing the dud i wouldnt give a packet of crisps for him yet alone a christmas hamper. if they can ofload him in a deal involving an upgrade great they should get the deal done before its to late.

Here is another chance for you to say you don't pay much attention to stats Claw.

Petts is; 2nd highest goal kicker (16 goals clear of next best)
2nd in total kicks
4th in total marks
7th in total disposals (playing off a forward flank!!)
and last but not least, 11th in total tackles for the Richmond team!!

So if it is so easy to replace Kayne, then please let me know who is going to step up and fill the gaps here. Danny Meyer perhaps? Or we could rob Peter to pay Paul and put Deledio down there.

How about we dredge up a few of our other successful flankers, I'm sure Poyas is going cheap, or perhaps Mills?!

From what I have seen of this years draftees (limited I admit), I would not take any less than top 10 for Kayne and nobody is going to give you that. Much lower than that and you are looking at more Meyer, JON, Patterson, Polo type draft picks. Some high draft picks who are good ordinary players but nowhere near the input that Kayne has.

It's a keep for me.

Personally I think we shoud try and trade Pettifer.

I see Jack Riewoldt as eventually being able to do his role at least as well as him/hopefully better.

If we can trade Pettifer and 18 for a pick around 10 I would take it.

Trading Pettifer will also fasttrack Riewoldts development.

I suggest you seek immediate medical attention & do not return to work until recovery is complete.

Pettifer is basically our 184cm CHF, does the role of a Hansen from the Eagles working 50 - 80 mt's out from goal.
Being the size he is and not overly quick he has to run a mini marathon every match to be effective. If he drops off his workrate
even 5% he gets swallowed up by his oppnent and is ineffective. If we get rid of him someone else will have to fill this role, as TwT suggested, in the future this is the role Reiwoldt will perform - hopefully after he develops a big engine and huge work ethic. I see Jack not replacing Richo , but Pettifer. In the meantime we may need Pettifer until Jack matures.

I can't believe we're discussing trading Petiffer.

The guy has kicked 37 goals in a team that only won 3 1/2 games for the year. He also ranks highly against the other 2nd string goal kickers from the more successful clubs.

Why get rid of him and then have to find someone to replace him. We need to keep our good players and replace our not so good players, either through draft or trade.

If Richo kicks 50+ goals next year, plus Petiffer & Brown 40+ each we'll have a half decent forward line.

I think we're looking at the wrong end of the ground. We need to stop the opposition kicking so many goals against us.

I don't understand the idea of replacing a player who has performed in their role when you are short of those types of players in your side who can do the job. Especially not for an untried 17 year old. If Pettifer is to be traded, wait until we have ready replacements now rather than cross your fingers and hope that in 5 or 6 years the youngster that you picked will perform at least at the level of the player you have just traded for. The best recruiting teams replace their excess of similar types of players, not their key players.
