Kevin Sheedy says never say never

not a fan of Sheeds being our coach, but I would consider it IF Hird was a part of the package (with the view to being senior coach after a transition).

that being said, I don't think Hird would be interested in us, so its all academic anyway.

I am warming to the idea of a package deal (eg. Sheedy with Hird or Malthouse with Buckley).

This allows us to have a senior coach with whom the players have utmost respect and could not question. It would then allow the 'junior' of the partnership to be developed into the 'senior' position say 1 to 3 years down the track. The 'junior' can then take the 'glory' for the finals and premierships during their tenure!

Picture this ;)

Sheedy appointed as coach - with Hird as assistant with a long term intention for him to take the reins in 2yrs (a package announced by RFC)

Johnson, Simmonds, Pettifer and King retired (Bowden TBC)

McMahon placed on long term injury list (tragically slips in bath)

Richo and Cousins sign on for one year (Richo in great form for final 4 rounds of 2009)

Tigers win 8 of final 2009 games.

Tragically don't make eight, but losing games are by very tight margins to eventual finalists, and Deledio, Cotchin, Tambling, Naha's, Vickery, Graham and others clearly demonstrate that TW was holding their progress back.

2010 membership - 40,000 minimum
2010 excitement level - huge
2010 final - guaranteed ;)

personally i dont have a prob;lem with us targeting an older coach. how about mick malthouse the board says mick we need you to build our list and get the right processes in place for the next two yrs. while you do this we want you to take under your wing two people one of whom who will take over from you. if you have us playing finals with a very young list after two yrs we will give you an extension and the assitants will have to wait.

we get a no nonsense coach who knows how to build a competetive side and at the same time we have the process in place that allows for a smooth transition from coach to coach.

Agreed clawsy.

So do I. This apparent focus on a younger coach worries me. we need the best coach available, and I don't care if they are 30 or 90, we need the best coach available.

If that is a young coach, fine, I have no problems, but the selection process they use had better be able to accurately evaluate potential coaching ability based on a limited resume against a proven track record over many seasons.

I agree we need the best coach available but so did Essendon and they got rid of Sheedy and then Melbourne also and they took Bailey over Sheedy doesn't that tell us where Sheedy was/is at as a coach?

No thanks for Sheedy because if he is the best available then a lot of coaches have not bothered which would be a very worrying factor.

not this old chestnut again. time to move on for everyone concerned, especially sheeds.

but as what other posters have said... president sheedy will be a winner

Mightn't pay well enough for him

and that seems to be working for Melbourne. You let Garry Lyon anywhere near an important decision and its bound to end in tears!

Probably a no to Sheedy from me... I really think the hunger is gone although the need to be involved remains. Would not have been averse to Sheedy as a caretaker but saw that more as a PR - gee up the troops move

Mick would be an option. Paul Roos would be my preferred choice. Hinkley or Bond are interesting possibilities especially if you brought in Balme as Director of Footy. Open mind on Campbell.
