Kicking for goal on the run

Actually I paid a rare compliment to Hydey on another thread:

Apart from the aforementioned players and their dubious kicking skills/actions it's not just them. On any given day it's a majority of the players, it's almost disease like. And it's players who you think are reasonably skilled. I beleive Newmans disposal is over-rated. Tiv we've known for many seasons now, Tucky, say no more, even the golden child Deledio isn't as highly efficient as we would think. Polak, McMahon (chronically over-rated), Edwards, Simmonds the list goes on......

In fact, when I think of players who don't turnover the ball the 1 player (apart from Browny) who I think of is ?

Chris Hyde.

He seems to understand that you put the ball out in front of the player. Or have I distorted view? I'm certainly not a big fan of Hydey so I think I'm being objective.

Hyde is actually an OK option as a small forward. Not fast enough to be a good tagger in the long term. But he does bob up and kick a few goals in the odd game .

I would rather see him pocketing the gold watch and waving goodbye, but if he is in the team we could do a lot worse then name him in the forward pocket. His much maligned left foot is actually above average in Tiger terms and pretty reliable in front of goal.

Newman does it all the time now.

he can kick the ball a bloody long way, it bewilders me that he isn't taking those shots on the run from 50-55
I was thinking the same thing but then I read the team instructions that you could see on TW's whiteboard and it said don't bomb it, hit up a player inside 50, but surely there should be some exceptions like Newman who can drill them from 60-65 out

i agree....once he gets near fifty he needs to back himself and have a shot...but i guess that is at the risk of being bagged if he misses....but he should back himself

maybe this week.......:):):)

Chris Hyde is our best shot for goal on the run.

This may surprise some people but if he is running and the goals are in sight I feel good....

Another ripping goal on he run at AAMI on Saturday

If a player is approaching 50, the only reason they should not take a shot is if there is a player clearly in the open and able to take a pass.

Or if they can only kick 40 metres.

You have to be sqaure on with the goals when kicking. I know Morton loves the kick around the body, thats not a good way to kick, the only player with a free lisence to do that is Nathan Brown.

I wouldn't call Morton's goals "on the run". He easily dodges around players at reasonably low speed and snaps across his body to good effect.

The guys running flat chat in a straight line to the goal, albeit with an oppo players chasing him hard are the ones we all want to see go throught the high-diddle-diddle.

I am sure they are all practicing hard. As Barassi said many years, "Practice does not make perfect, only PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT"
