kicking for goal

The first thing they should have is an orthodox approach to goal IMO, Oldster. I'll be interested to see if Chocco can have an influence.

It's funny how often the bloody ball goes exactly where you aim it. :duh We have to improve here. Most of the credit for improvement will go to the player. Some will go to a coach who can influence him.

Martin's the bloke who's goal kicking has gone off a bit. He can get it back.

It's not the ones from the pocket, although i believe we lead far too wide too often.

It is the shots from the 45 degree slice directly in front of goal that we are so poor at converting. These should be converted at about 80/20. I would suggest that we are somewhere about 60/40.

Should have Whitey playing more often, he's a pretty good set shot and not bad on the burst either (remember against Heaveho late last year) ;)

Remember the Chocco clip on the RFC site? The one where he had the players in the lecture room and was saying something like... " You have to put the pressure on yourself and think that every shot you have is the shot that it will take to win the grand final..." or something along those lines. That doesn't seem to have sunk in. Or, maybe it has and that's the problem.

Our forward system and delivery seem to both be partly at fault atm.

As someone else said earlier... you get two players having kick to kick over 40 metres and they will generally kick it to within two metres of the target. It's not a complicated science unless you let it be.

Agree TDawg. Definitely mental. These guys all know how to kick a football (well almost all of them).

What about Jack Riewoldt's approach to goal for the past fortnight? Exemplary. Orthodox set shot kicking with excellent results. He got tired and missed an easy sixth goal when the game was over. The only blemish on his night.

Muscles McGuane absolutely squandered four goals last week against St Kilda but improved immensely tonight. He was good. 3.1 was fine.

Lids missed a sitter but hit the post and then kicked three straight. Excellent. Dusty morally kicked the same. Fine there.

So two key forwards and two mids had great games in front of goal. Good. But we were *smile* in front of goal. *smile* hopeless. As we have been all pre-season and all season to date.

Each of our games this year should have been over at quarter time but wasn't due to shithouse goal kicking. Tonight's first quarter was our worst so far.

Edwards missed a goal from the square. He was on his own. Unforgivable.

Vickery kicked two behinds from two simple set shots. Bloody awful. Not of professional standard. It's indoors. The roof is closed. Shocking game in front of goal. Vickery can kick. (I can't remember which quarters. :old)

Jackson missed a sitter from a set shot. Very poor football. He was 50% from set shots. Not good enough.

Did Grigg have a shot that didn't make the trip? Pushed it to the right of the goal mouth? Que?

Conca? Lids the poster.

Anyways, we kicked nine behinds and had another miss or two in the first quarter. None under pressure. The goal kicking was woeful. And if we're going to win some big games this year we have to convert.

It's only round three but atm the goal kicking of some of our players is still *smile*'ouse.

Must nail our opportunities against the Pies and nail them early.
Come on Tiges get your kicking boots on.
Yep, if we were to find the magic answer to accuracy then we'd be we'll on our way to real success.

while we always do miss a few gettable shots i reckon a lot of the time our poor conversion comes from not creating easy chances. this wasnt the case in the 1st quarter on Sunday. we shouldve easily kicked at least 3 or 4 more.

What could have been in that first quarter eh?

Martin goals -not disallowed

5 goals 9 points.

Jack's mark paid and goal

6 . 9

Jacko goals from 30 in front instead of missing

7. 8

Edwards goals point blank from 10 out instead of missing

8. 7

Conca goals instead of missing from 30 out straight in front

9.6

Deledio goals instead of missing from 30 out straight in front.

10.5

About right IMO!

16.6 after quarter time was a massive improvement. where are we for goal kicking accuracy so far in 2013? we must have been 18th after round 2... but must have jumped up a few spots after round 3.

We're 15th, at 45.3%. North top at 59.7%; Brisbane worst at 41.7%.

Exactly what it should have been.

It's technique, Conca was always going to miss. He kicked exactly in the direction he was moving. The way you hold the ball has very little impact. It's the movement of the body on the way in and keeping everything fluid and pointing at the target.

Collingwood wouldn't be much better. There goal kicking has been crap for years.

we will not get a second chance to make up for poor kicking over the next 3 weeks...you have to make the most of every chance you get against sides like collingwould, freo and geebong....if our goal kicking is on target next week and clokes isnt WE WIN :clap :clap :clap..i think its as simple as that..we can match them in every other aspect

Having the class to take your opportunities when they present themselves is what separates the wheat from the chaff.

A lot of Tigers have been shitcanned for their use in front of goal in this thread. (Mainly by me.) Except one.

Trent Cotchin is the natural leader of the team. His goal kicking for 2013 used to terrible but then it got disgraceful.

He has to show the way. He's good enough. If I could get on I'd back him to kick 25 goals from here.
