King

Far from a fan of White, however as I feel White offers very little in his role, I wouldnt mind seeing him get a crack at Kings spot, he could well become a weapon there

He attacks the ball hard enough but thats not enough to get you a game at afl level Well obviously it is coz they keep picking him :(. Im sick of people banging on about him likes hes our saviour.Should be dropped as he is one of many liabilities in our side...in our club!

For god sake Jake. if you are as determined as gritty as you made out to be, just bloody realise. your not the toughest and defiinately not the skillfullest bloke on an afl list. either start getting in and taking blokes out cleanly or go back to being a plumber. we need half backs who can use the ball or run through guys and make them thinking twice before they go near the ball again, not guys who yell and pull faces. The only thing funny about Jake King are the faces. He would have to be the worst defender in the AFL

Lets get back to being a decent club. Mediocrity shouldnt be tolerated. Mediocrity will continue to be tolerated at our club until someone gets the balls to say enough is enough...but there are too many soft ****s at RIchmond Ive had a gutfull!

Richmond will never win a game with king in the side. Looking angry after his opponent out marks or outmuscles
him or when he kicks the ball to the opposition doesn't make you tough. Not AFL standard.

I think this is laying a bit too much at Kingy's door. Richmond have done plenty of losing without him in the side. It ought to be a team rule that no-one kicks across the face of goal until our skills - read confidence - improve. I think you will find that if we start winning he will look a lot better.

whilst appalled at his size and footskills didnt want him on the list didnt want us useing a rookie pick on a 23 yr old.
was more than happy to have jake in the side when he first broke into the side. and for me thats saying something, everyone knows that ive taken redmonds stance on footskills and skinny runts are have been anathema to me.

i was happy to play him because of the total lack of tackling and chasing and pressure applied to ball carriers.
i think this first game coincided with bowden and a few others getting the chop.
while the skills were still crap overall the intensity of the team lifted and they played with a bit of heart.
opposition ball started coming out of our forward line with a bit of pressure on it.

this should have been a lesson to wallace. it should of told him that intensity was lacking and it should have told him that while we can lift the intensity with blokes like jake we need to find players who unlike jake have some size pace and decent footskills who play with intensity. it seems wallace ignored tboth lessons or the lessons were lost on him in time.

we achieved a similar thing against geelong last week. while skills were still crap we at least played with something approaching the minimal amount of intensity required, for two quarters anyway.

its the intensity side of things that would have me picking king in font of skinnies in edwards and mcmahon he brings something these two dont that is pressure or percieved pressure.
if tommy hislop had another yard of pace i would banish all three forever and plonk hislop at hb. to me hislop should rotate onball get him to develop a big motor and natural aggresion hard tackling and a decent kick is there.

matt white is another ive liked quick solid body tackles well applys pressure but kicking has driven me insane. white is a preferable option to edwards king and mcmahon. personally i would be looking for an upgrade on whitey but hes down the replace order a bit. you never know he may turn it around as well very few clangers in his first two games this yr and has been serviceable.

Played 34 games, 6 wins, 2 draws 26 losses - interesting.

Gawd, how to keep a positive attitude as a player with those sorts of numbers.

With our recent history though, Jake wouldn't be the only one with such a stat.

Like some have said, to be blaming Jake is a futile and pointless exercise. He's out there and trying, just as you would be (you - meaning anyone reading this) if you had half his ability.

Last week, Jake didn't expect to be played - he said that the week before, felt he had a few weeks at Coburg first. You didn't like his game against Geelong? He probably didn't either, but he did the team thing and played when called upon.

His first 4 or 5 games in 2008 were faily good (three in particular) then he missed a lot of the season, coming back at the end for a couple. He also had operations and an interupted Pre-season. Even our B&F for 2008 had Clangers, so perhaps keeping Jake's in perspective could help form a balanced view instead of yearning another whipping boy around here ;D

I for one, like him in the team.

Look he made a bad clanger last week that cost a few goals but ayt the start of the game ,I was delighted seeing him take it up to Ablett.

None of the other players have the gonads to do that.

I think the rest of the playing group saw that and lifted.

The team seems to tackle better when he is in the team.

Remember the start of last year when he was one of our only better players.

He copped an injury and fell away during the later stages of the year but he's ready now.

Just give a bit of match practice.

He trys his heart out for this club, the skills will get better.

Look, I don't want to say I told you so but .....

When Kingy was first picked I did mention that it was a nice story ( the plumber from the suburban league to VFL to AFL) but that he wasnt the type of player we needed to progress.

2 years on and my opinion still stands.
