Joel Bowden should be in the seniors, I can only assume that hes not in that side because hes 31 and they dont see him as a future player, yet the thing that pisses me off is why they continue to play hacks that clearly cant kick a footy and have no footy brains and also wont be in our next premiership side, I cannot believe they are continuing to play king, McMahon and hislop ahead of joel.

Kingy cant play, simple as that, hes had chance after chance and he turns the ball over, hislop is even worse, that guy just doesnt know how to get rid of it quick and looks like hes in slow motion whenever he gets the ball, never knows what to do with it and McMahon is soft and unacountable. It is an insult to joel who is one of the classiest players who can actually kick a footy.

Joel playing at coburg has got to stop, people laugh when they see kingy in our side each week cos they know hes gonna *smile* up and we continually shoot ourselves in the foot.

Yep. At this stage I feel really sorry for Joel. I went through my period years back where I used to get grumpy as I felt he was soft & took the soft option too often. He has played better than the blokes that have been promoted since he was dropped. People have short memories when he basically won us matches in last season against Brisbane (2-3 goals in the last including the one that won the game) - walking the ball back over the line against Essendon who had us mentally tossed late in the game & a matchwinning mark against Port. I am all for promoting youth but.......this smacks of a decision (gone) that has been made regardless of how he plays & it is a bit shabby for a bloke who (a) was a forward turned into a defender because we had no-one else (b) often stood blokes substantially bigger & stronger than him & came up trumps. We could have used him last week against North. Don't start me on McMuffen..............

Try soft and unaccountable. A 77% disposal effeciency doesnt bode well either when he is the king of soft touches.

Who doesn't like Jake's attitude & attack on the game/player. Absolute terrier. But.....not sure I would being up the kicking efficiency to make the point.

Whos sticking up for Jakes kicking ? Certainly not me ! The defensive side of Jake and Sloppy are like night and day when compared to Bowden. McMahon i certainly dont rate, he is softer than Bowden and his kicking is worse.

We are hardly going to bring bowden in to do a tagging role are we ? For the record i dont think Jake or Sloppy really deserve their place on what they bring to the table.

Fair enough. I think you're right - I wouldn't use Bowden as a tagger either. My comment was overall. If you pick on form (notwithstanding we all want to see kids played now including 2 that are yet to crack a senior game - Putt & Gourdis). Bowden has been playing damn fine footy at VFL level & not (apparently) being considered for a senior game while others, whose form has not been as good...have been called up. That...certainly appears to suggest that the papers have been stamped. Over his career....that is a bit shabby for mine. Just as Gaspargate/Kellaway etc.....were...I feel....a bit lacking.

I agree with you. I cant see why we have Moore/Silvester, Thursfield and McGuanne in the backlines when someone like Bowden is available and in good form. Doesnt make sense. Bowden would allow Newman to go into the middle and provide us with more pinpoint kicking.

Bowden's interview in the HUN the other day I think summed up Bowden's professionalism. You could feel the disappointment and I think it is just poor that they hadn't even bothered to pull Bowden aside and explain their thoughts and reasoning and plans for his future. On that basis I think Bowden's time is over but I would have thought that the Tigers would have learnt from their poor handling of other past cases. Knights comes to mind immediately.

I have heard that Bowden is desperately seeking a farewell game if it is his time to leave the club

Against Collingwood with his testimonial might be ideal?

It's called "playing the kids"; "looking to the future", aka tanking. Well done RFC for finally doing something right, taking into account the situation we are in. Yes, Joel is easily in our top dozen let alone 22. Good stategy/thinking by the board.

GO TIGES!!!

I agree that Bowden does not deserve to be treated like he is being treated. If you are in the best 22 you should expect a game, simple. I am one of the few that feel he has another year in him and we could do with his experience playing along side our youth. Who says you have to have 22 young guys in a side.

I agree. Joel's form wasn't bad when he was dropped and he's been very good at Coburg. I don't understand why he hasn't been selected on form considering he's regularly been in the bests at Coburg, including the latest report on EOTT which wasn't rewarded with selection.

From EOTT
Joel Bowden
Played centre half-back and was terrific right throughout the game. Put his body on the line many times, gathered 33 possessions, took 14 marks, and saved many goals in a superb performance.

Makes a mockery of the comments below.

Richmond's football operations manager Ross Monaghan denied there was anything sinister in the axings and said there was still a future for the five players at the club.
........
"I'm sure if they're prepared to work hard and set their mind to it, they'll work their way back into the side," he told The Age last night.
.........
"Sides each week are selected on form … there's no particular theme and there's nothing sinister, it's just the normal selection process that we normally go through."
..........

I only hope Joel has been made aware of the situation and why he's not being played. I really hope we don't let another great Tiger leave in disappointing circumstances.

agree there are some strange selections at tigerland at the moment.

I do not agree with your comments on McMahon and King.
McMahon played a very good game on Sunday. He was the only player running and creating scoring opportunities in the last quarter. Richmond should be looking at performance of players - not whether a guy is a roughnut.

King laid the best 2 tackles of the season for Richmond on Sunday - his run is excellent. He is making the odd mistake - but if we can get the team running as a unit that will be eliminated. His mistakes tend to come when there is no movement from in front of him. The team needs to be running and making space for the whole match. Once again Richmond should be looking at his performance and not selecting the team that the media wants them to pick

Gee if it came to a choice between Bowden and King I would sadly swallow my pride and say Joel...but only until a kid came along. I dont have any problems witht eh selectors looking towards 2010 and beyond at the expense of playing guys who simply wont be there when it next counts.
King is simply not good enough! Allow him to dwell in Coburg....even better leave him there with Bowden.

All of these comments re Joel playing assumes we are trying to win remaining games. If we are, then he should be playing it seems. However, if we are just giving kids a run, plus sussing out some others....or...shudder....tanking, then the club won't play him. I have always been a fan of Joel and hope at least, if they don't play him soon, he gets a farewell game towards the end of the season.

This argument often gets thrown up with Bowden & Richo. On the same theme, why shouldn't we be looking to trade Cousins while he's worth something?

Bowden should never have been retained this year anyway
Should have been retired at the end of last year along with Kane Johnson
