Knighters slays them at Essendon already

I agree - Dont quite understand this "cult of Knighter" - better than good player sure, but after his ankle injury in his last 2 seasons he was 2 yards too slow ; and got caught with the ball all the time. Silky skills, but quite see how he can be considered a 'champion' - how many brownlow votes did he poll, how many times AA? , how many times B&F, how many finals or premierships.... a champion is someone like Flower, Judd, , Matera, Weightman, Hird, Voss, If he was a champion then so was Benny Gale. I think he just stood out amongst a bunch of rubbish teammates.

Anyway what player likes being told their career is over? 90% of the time the decision is correct and its more down to the character of the player as to the good or bad feeling the remains afterwards. Theres plenty of players who have left without feeling they have an axe to grind.
Good luck to him at Essendon, but I hope its a disaster.
Short memory?

Ash Prescott is an assistant coach at Bummerland. Next they'll have the Kellaways signed up to help out too.

Prescott has served a good aprenticeship over in the West.Probably a good pickup for Bombers.

Congratulations to Ash Prescott, who has done an excellent job in WA.

Certainly deserved the gig.

Good luck to both. Very big shoes to fill for Knights, lose a couple in a row and get beaten by heaps, the knife comes out.

Must be considered one of the biggest role to be filled, a new comer against a coach that brought them back.

This is what I fear. As I mentioned, most Essendon people I know hated Knights the player. Thought he was over-rated by Richmond fans, and a pretender to their legion of champions. If they lose games, and have a "loser Tiger" at the helm, the level of feralness heading towards Windy Hill will make the Woodsmen look reasonable and educated.

Bombers boss puts deadline on Knights

Jackson told the Herald Sun the expectation was on that youth to propel the club towards a top-four position in 2010.

"I will get kicked up the bum I suppose, and Matthew is going to be the first one to kick me for putting a time line on these things, but three years from now, which is 2010, I think you'd expect Essendon to be pushing up to a top-four spot if these kids are as a good as we think they are," he said.

"If they're not then we aren't good judges and we probably shouldn't be there.

I hate the Bumbers with a passion but that statement highlights a club that demands excellence.

None of these 5 year contracts and 2011 pie in the sky statements.

Whilst it may be painted as unrealistic expectations, Knighter is under no false illusions.
The heat is being applied to the coach from the very beginning to achieve results and play finals.

I would love to see March come out and apply similar pressure to Terry Wallace.
We should expect finals in Wallace's 4th season.

Knighter will be the first of many sacrifices at the alter of feral Bomber expectations.

I'm hoping this is the start of a period for the Bombers like we had in the 80's as the signs are all there. Absolute arrogance, over-rate their list, early wiff of the "if we fail its the coaches fault" mentality....

I think I might enjoy the next few years :hihi

its not a statement for excellence, but a cover up to disfuse, the sacking of Sheedy. There are still questions being asked to why this occurred. For me, knights will be the first to go, in a line of many.

With all due respect to Knighta, I really can't see him succeeding with Ashley Prescott as an assistant.

This predictable failure could end up being more of a laugh on how pathetic our club's players were than just an Essendon error on choosing the right coach.

Tigerforce,

you may have this the wrong way about. Why would it reflect on Richmond ex players, if failure occurs? Now that geelong have won the premiership, how many of their players will be successful coaches? Answer, very few.

Knights and Prescott never won a premiership like Richmond successes in Sheedy and Malthouse have.

How many premiership did Hafey play in? Point is, there are very few ex players that make the grade in coaching.
