The common belief about why Matthew Knights got the job at Essendon was that he sold a positive spin on the list and said that it could return to the finals. I’m not sure whether it was what really happened, but if it did, he’s completely duped the footy club.
An article today in the Hun has the club pensioning off Peverill and Jason Johnson, and saying the will follow the Hawthorn philosophy to rebuilding a club.
Does anyone else think Knights bs’ed his way into a job? If I was Hardwick, I’d feel pretty hard done by, considering he was supposed to have said he wanted to go down the Hawthorn road in his interview.
Looks like, with the success of the Hawthorn model, bottoming out is going to be the way to go for most clubs. The only question is, how much bottoming out is enough? Should we have been more aggressive in our restructure, at the start of Wallace’s contract?
