He wasn't much of a coach at VFL level, what makes them so sure he will be able to get the job done at AFL level?

On what do you base that assessment. If it is measured by where the Bendigo Pioneers finished this year, then Terry Wallace is clearly the worst coach in the AFL. :'(

Just makes me sad.

Why, good to see a Richmond person land such an important job. It is not as if we have produced much else of our sustained period of mediocrity.
Should be at Tigerland
Should have played 300 as well.
Watch him turn them around.
Terry should step a side for him.

Why?

Well Done Knighter.

A top tiger who deserved team success but never found it at Richmond. Hope that he is a roaring success at the Bombers (just not against the Tigers).

Obviously Knighter has impressed many of the powerbrokers at the Bombers. Essendon CEO Peter Jackson is one of the most highly respected CEO's in the AFL and I couldn't possibly see how the Bombers would have appointed Knighter if Peter Jackson did not believe that he had what it takes to be a successful coach at Essendon.

Best of luck to him.

I feel Knighta has made a mistake here. There can't be a tougher coaching gig than following on from Sheedy.

If he is successful, he'll be lauded as the new super coach. But I feel he'll not see out his first contract.

Good luck to him anyway.

we shoulda kept him around the club when we had the chance

Disagree. Let him go out and learn some skills, tips, tricks and mindset that was not Richmond over the last 25 years.

All the best to him, my favorite player as a kid apart from Stuart Maxfield.

The press conference is going to be held at 3.30 I think

Did you change your sig with the announcement hellen?

I've had this signature for about 8 months ;) I'm not counting skip.

What mistake has he (Knighta) made? This is realistically probably going to be his only shot at an AFL senior role so of course he has to try and make the most of the opportunity that has been given to him.

Virtually everyone has written him off before he has spent a day in the job at EFC. Sound familiar? Sounds very similar to his early days as a 17yo baby faced midget at the RFC when many experts said that he couldn't make it at VFL/AFL Level. Was to go on to play 279 games for the RFC and was one of the best players to wear the RFC guernsey in the last 50 years. Unfortunately for Knighta he was born 20 years too late. If Knighter had of played for RFC in the late 60's and 70's instead of the late 80's and 90's, he would have been regarded as an all time great of the RFC with his silky smooth skills and the quality of players that would have been around him.

I just wonder how many people writing him off have actually any knowledge of his coaching ability. He is a smart operator and may just prove a few people wrong. Essendon have appointed him for 3 years does that tell you something.

Thats right, rest of the world is shocked but Hird said the essendon playing group were hardly surprised at all. As much as I hate the bombers, can't help but have a tiny (and it is tiny!!) soft spot for them now.

Go Knighter.. all the best!!!

I have been a long time fan of Knighta. Was nearly in tears when he did his final lap around the MCG the night he retired.

Its a pity he is not at the RFC in some sort of capacity but I wish him all the best as senior coach of the Bombers.
