KPP in the future

I saw the death tonight of KPP at Telstra Dome.

Evidence
1. Gaspar - Has been a champion full back over the years and I beleive could still do the job if the game was played as it was 5 years even. Tonight though there was just no match ups for him. Who could he play on???

2, Richo - One of the greatest players of all time was forced to run his guts out (like he alwys does to get a kick. Not many big blokes have the athletic ability that he does so where does that leave them..

The future teams will be

2 - big ruckman to change off the bench
2 - Talls at 6 3# again changing of the bench and possibly in the ruck
18 running players

Eade will lead the Bulldogs to the flag this year with this type of team, having everyoone fooled that they still need a couple of big blokes

Phantom you may want to rethink your requirrements for succesful teams because the times have changed forever.

never a truer word spoken now I've just got to work on a few multiples to go with it , who's supposed to win the NRL this year

What odds are the Bulldogs. I think I might have some money on them as well.

THe Sainst won't match up with them they will have to drop half their back line. THe Eagles are also to tall. THe dogs will run everone of their feet and no club will be able to catch up with what they hassembled for about 4 years.

At least Wallace is starting to do the same at Tigerland. He basically started the movement at the Doggiesto begin with.

Don't know about that.
The Footscray stats show that Hargrave, Grant & Harris had excellent games.

What the game showed me was that we were extremely ill-prepared.
We were far to slow, poorly skilled, and never had numbers on the ball.
We were constantly forced out to the flanks, and played indirect football.

They were fully prepared, fast, skilled, and constantly had numbers at the ball.
They played through the centre corridor, and went direct to goal.

They had 8 talls in their 22, to our 7. They were the taller side.
We were the slower side.

At least our expectations won't be destroyed midseason.
It's all uphill from here.  ;)

As for the Doggies, a great start, but it's going to be a very long season to keep it up to this level. Good luck to them.

All I'll say is this:

At the end of the season when the dogs players have run an average 50km more than any other team and they started to slow down, the 6' 6" full forwards will still be 6' 6". No matter how fast you run, eventually you're going to slow down and fall victim to fatigue. Yet a 190cm + KPP stays the same height throughout the year, even in September, when the players are holding their bodies together for those last few games.

Phatom,

Apart from Minson & Street I don't think you could describe any of their other 5 talls as being giants of men (big bodied) apart from Grant. Grant however is a bit like Richo and covers the ground very very well. You get about 5 of these players a decade across all clubs.

General,

THe Doggies are trained tu run out the year. They will taper off and then hit their strides again in AUg / Sept. You are living by the adage theat the big guys don't get smaller as the game goes on. Trust me this is not the future.

Also the beauty of having 20 running players is that if you have injuries if does not affect your structue so much. They are replaceable. WHat happens to the game plan when your big guys go down??????

And to think we used to go to the footy to watch the big grabs and hits from the key position players!  What were we thinking!

Anyone enjoy going to the footy here today more than they did 10 years ago?  Not me.  I'm more interested in Warney getting stuck into the South africans.  Now there is a key position player!

Exactly right Phantom.

This is the biggest shock our current players have copped and they must now learn, otherwise the blame is on our coaches if they don't make radical changes to our playing team every week.

Patrick Bowden is tall enough to play KPP for us in the future, he's a gun.

Who cost us a 4th round draft pick with part of his wage being paid by another club........it in't exactly going to cost us an arm and a leg in the long run.

Could get 22 possessions a week and would still never hurt anyone...just like tonight. Nothing but cheap possessions and zero accountability.
