With the ruck problems we are facing today he would have been very handy pick up. We had a prime opportunity to pick up Lachlen McKinnen about 2 years ago while he played with Coburg. Quite frankly I was amazed we passed him over. I've seen many VFL ruckman go around but this guy was a standout imho.

He stands at 206 cm and 107 kilos

The boy can play!

I remember him dominating many Coburg games a few years ago at just 18 years of age. I see he played for the Bombers in the NAB cup earlier this year and competed really well.

200cm+ ruckman that can play football dont grow on trees. It was a opportunity missed. He would be our number one ruck if he was playing for us today. Instead we kept Knobel who is injury prone and never gets a kick around the ground.

???

I also like him CT I dont remember seeing him dominate but he was very encouraging.

We discussing him around the round table ;Dthe other night and I am of the belief we would have taken him in the rookie draft but Essendon beat us to the punch.Saw him at the Cranbourne game an could not get over how big his become

Ruck domination I meant CC!

There were many games that he dominated the hitouts as a 18yo.

Surely that would have raise a few Richmond eyebrows. Geelong were very interested in him also.

Anyway, I remember at the time that we had plenty of opportunities to get him, but we passed on him!

Interestingly Laycock of the Bombers is struggling to get a game. He's not a bad young player in my view.Might be one to look at for the right price come seasons end.

McKinnon was disccused at length when he was at Coburg. WHilst he didnt set the world alight he did LOOK like a worthy punt in that he had height, good foot skills and generally moved well. It was strange that Essendon chose him and we chose Grahame in the '05 psd. I assume RFC didnt think he was much chop. Time will tell who made the wiser choice.

He is in there team for this week.
I dont mind him but he is a bit injury prone.

Unless we wanted to take him in the ND or PSD we didnt get a chance to pick him up anyway. He was pick 4 to Essendon and we took Angus at pick 5.

We would have taken him as a rookie if we had the chance. That is all he deserved. Effenscum got in before us, so be it.

Lachlan is a supreme athlete. He won the Melbourne High Sports prize in 2004, playing basketball, waterpolo, netball and football for the school. He was state waterpolo goalie at one stage.

I saw him play in a practice game at the start of this year in the Bendigo Snrs against Northern at Princess Park, and it seemed he was a little bit behind the pace. This could well have been due to his shoulder injury last year and his lack of match practice.

Melbourne's recruiting officer told me 'we wanted him', so he was obviously in the sights of a few teams. I wouldn't be surprised, if he doesn't get a guernsey this year at the Bombers, if they let him go. He is a long term prospect IMO - hes tall and has some real muscle behind him now.
