PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Is it just me that looks at our current list and wonders why the club refuses to draft rugged, aggressive hard nuts. All the kids that seem to come in to the club seem to be quiet and almost scared to hurt anyone on the football field, along with the fact that all our established players are nice guys that hold no fear for any opposition players.
If you line up our list with say Hawthorn where you have Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis, Guerra, Bateman and Brown we have nobody apart from Jake King who is 5'9" and 74kgs who will attack another players body.
Even Geelong have that hard, tough edge through every line and they are great at intimidating other sides with their body pressure and aggression.

I caught myself on the weekend looking at our team run around and thinking to myself, there is not one mongrel amongst them, there is not one player that anyone would consider tough, there is not one player that would smash open a pack and there is not one players that would impose themselves on the game by making a physical statement.

My question is do we deliberately avoid these types in the draft? Surely you can track these types of traits through junior footy before the players are drafted? I guess I am just sick of the black and yellow being the hunted rather than the hunter!
Surely someone from the club had to sit down with JON, Tambling, Hughes, Meyers, McGuane ect and say to themselves....hold on a second, these kids are very timid, they don't seem to have that killer instinct. It is time to stand up boys and become men!
