If Hawthorn's first pick was Roughead.
They picked up Buddy as the scraps of the top 5.

Scraps that have ended up being truffles. :(

truffles are buried deep underground and need a sniffer dog to find them. Obviously the hawks had a dog on stand by. ;)

Once again I ask the question as to why the Bulldogs are exempt from the Buddy hysteria. If ever there was a side who should have been sold on a player like Buddy it was them. For a side full of runners and lacking talls, taking Griffen over Buddy has really proven costly for them. But really, I think this proves that there were significant question marks over the guy and let's not forget that even the Hawks overlooked him with their first pick.

So I believe that rather than people saying we made a mistake not picking him up, we should look at the situation realistically and say that ultimately the Hawks got very lucky at the draft table. The evidence is there but most people tend to overlook it.

But that would be too easy and make too much sense. I couln't give a toss about Franklin.

Simple as that really.

I doubt the other teams overlooked James Hird before dp79 are crying in their beers.

Tambling was the right choice at the time and will still be a good player.

Good point - I clearly remember the Bulldog's recruiting guru Clayton announcing that Ryan Griffen was the best kid in the draft and they would have taken him at number one.

I think clubs forget that supporters have long memories when they arrogantly claim victory after the draft.

Even in today's highly analysed game, it sometimes comes down to luck. That's why the wheel will eventually turn and Hawk supporters will be wise not to get cocky. The time will come when they will overlook a superstar, it happens to all clubs - Scott Pendlebury anyone?

Just on the Bullies, they have recently delisted key position player Tim Walsh - a NUMBER FOUR PICK in the 2002 draft.

Just goes to show, there aint any guarantees ever - even in the top ten or top five. Even with a highly regarded recruiting division such as the Bullies or the Bombers, who have also made some early blunders in the draft.

I'm well and truly over the comparison now. I was actually hoping Franklin would kick that goal to win the game, the competition needs superstars like Ablett, Lockett and Richo. While it would be more enjoyable watching Franklin in Yellow and Black, I can't help but be impressed with his on field achievements. I reckon it is great watching young potential superstars like Buddy and Selwood play, next year it might be Cotchin.

out of contract end of next year.....just wait for the vultures come next season.....or should we say eagles.... ;)
