Last Night Higlighted the truths we all must aknowledge

And its a long road back which is why I refuse to get upset after 1 game following other games where we have shown promise. If he does nothing else at the very least Wallace will make us a more skillful side even if they didn't show it yesterday.

This is the truth that we must all acknowledge:

We are a young side and young sides are inconsistent. We have been competitive for the past few weeks without getting reward for effort and having the class to finish sides off. Last night we played poorly, pure and simple.

Just a minority of individuals who are telling us we are in trouble and not good enough. The majority of us know we are on the right track and Terry and his had picked coaching staff are the right personnel to move the club forward. We have a senior group of players that will take us to premiership glory, and this group are ferocious, have exemplory ball skills, never fail to back a team mate when in a fight, and continuely run in numbers up and down the ground like a group of fighter pilots in a bombing sorte. :crazy

Thought I was reading a 1970's thread there for a minute Geoff!

The truth we must acknowledge is that by losing games and 'aiming' for a number-1 draft pick, all it is doing is continuing the losing mentality we have endured for years now, infecting the good young players we are slowly developing, and this mentality will hit the next batch of young kids we draft (including Kreuzer, if we get him), and the cycle continues.

We must acknowledge that a number-1 draft pick guarantees us nothing, as many of the better players over the years have NOT been drafted at number-1 anywa.....and that winning as many games as possible and getting rid of more "deadwood players" at seasons end, is the only way to go for long term success.

Heres a truth most will not accept and in fact send a lynch mob out for me for putting up here but ive said it before and i havent changed my mind.

Joel Bowden is very over rated and has been for a long time, in my mind is not an elite leader when compared to real leaders such as McLeod, Black, Judd, Harvey, Hird, Buckley, Burns, Harvey B, Kirk etc.

The amount of times Joel Bowden coughs the ball up, stuffs around with underground handballs, and puts team mates under pressure, is laconic in his play and is unnacountable grates me, and the adoration this guy gets i feel is unwarranted.

OK yes i will cop the - hes 2 time all australian and won Best and fairests - You *smile* head you know nothing etc, but at least ive got the guts to put myself out there and say it, cos others are too scared or dont wanna be called a troll or whatever. I'll do it cos its what i believe, and im sure i'll be assasinated and shouted down and gone at by my feral PRE faithfull but i couldnt give a frogs fat arse. Go Your Hardest One And all.

Joel got those playing as a lose man in defence most of the time which is easy to do, and makes a player look wonderful when they get so much of the ball.

Bowdens decision making is pathetic at times, not acceptable for A SO CALLED LEADER and has been for much of his career leading him to be one of the most maligned players on the RFC list a few years ago with tigers fans wanting him sacked.

Its the Bowdens and Johnsons, Tivendales and TUcks, their crap skills, decision making and unnacountable ways that are the cancer and the BANE of this club and if these guys are the leaders to develop quality kids like Edwards, Lids, Foley etc then its no wonder and no co incidence that the time of these guys at the club equates with one of the worst eras in our long history.

Its also no wonder all these so called gun kids dont come on at RFC.

Mediocrity has been accepted for too long, and i believe Bowden Joel has been overated and put on a false pedastal and in fact guys like Bowden are one of the reasons this club has stagnated.

I for one would trade Joel Bowden especially to the Swans who'd take him in a heartbeat and we could possibly get 2 1st rounders for him in a 3 way trade.

If we did get pick 1 and Kreuzer then we'd have the bonus of possibly getting a Gaertner FB and a Palmer or Grimes or Cotchin or Masten or Selwood also with the other 2 1st rounders, and by god having 3 players of that calibre would be much better for the future than watching Bowden flitter around waxing for possessions then coughing them up at will.

OK im putting my helmet on now after committing PRE Treason having a crack at a RFC koala.

Actually i'll go the full body armour i think.

Re: Last Night Higlighted the truths we all must acknowledge

Last night was dissapointing - Richmond lost another game - In a fashion that continues to frustrate our supporters & players. Last night highlighted some truths. We got off to a slow start - again - but managed to find some fighting spirit prior to half time. When Edwards fed Pattison for a decent snap around the corner, the Tigers confidence lifted. But, we must acknowledge Nathan Brown had a quiet game, Simmonds is struggling back from injury, our midfield continues to run out of petrol and our turnovers continue to hurt us badly - Ironically, these factors contributed to our poor start in 2007. TW stated that our players weren't "hard enough...tight enough or possibly not mentally switched on". I expect to see games like this, particularly with a young side.

Last night highlighted some truths the Tigers must acknowledge. They desparately need a CHB, a CHF, a back-up Ruckman and a trio of running/ hard/ skillful midfielders. If the Tigers could buy six players with an open cheque book, these positions/ characteristics would take priority. The pre season draft is sure to fill one of these voids and an early pick in the Nat. draft another. If the Tigers can trade and utilise a two extra picks before twenty, possibly one more deficiency can be overcome. And with Edwards, Deledio, Foley, Polak, Rievoldt & Tambling emerging, the Tigers should improve. The improvement will only continue if the Tigers are prepared to delist/ trade. I suspect up to 6-7 players are on the chopping block - These players have been on our list for several years and have just failed to take the next step.

Liverpool - great post and I agree 100%. We must break our losers cycle.

Have to say it - Craig you are on FIRE at the moment! We do overrate our players...and have done for a very long time. If the opportunity came up for us to get some quality picks for a player with currency - and JB is one...then i think in the long run we would benefit from it.

A clubs senior players are so important in creating success....a club needs bold leaders so that come the last day of september you knew exactly what you will get from ur leaders.. Thats why the lions were so formidable...you knew Voss, Leppitch, Lynch etc wouldnt shirk an issue - they would hit the target or kick that vital goal......roo,macleod,goodwin,edwards.....carey,stevens,archer......is there a theme here? Last night made me think how our leaders really do struggle in comparison to other clubs. Last night Simpson, Grant and Harvey were terrific....when the game was there to be won...they won it. The pies are playing great footy off the back of Burns, Licuria, Obree etc playing well....it all starts from the top. We have two genuine senior leaders IMO in Richo and Brown...Tuck, Tivendale and Kane Johnson are a big big worry....and i too belive that unfortunately this club wont be going anywhere till Foley, Deledio, Pattison, Thursty, Jackson, King...etc - are our senior core. Problem is you cannot cull all ur senior players despite their flaws...it seems we will have to wait a while to cure this disease infested in our club....like it or not thats just my opinion.

Craig, you didn't go far enough. Package him with his dud brother, and they can continue the love in somewhere else.

Great to see I am not the only one who feels this way. The side is being let down by a distinct lack of leadership from the playerswho should be showing the way. We lose our way from the opposition goal square.
There is no decisivness in what takes place. Playes dont know where to run too as Joel dithers around confusing others. Then when it gets to the centre as was shown AGAIN!!!! on Sunday we play merr-go-round football. Honestly I think some game plans are drawn up using a compass. Tuck and Johnson couldnt lead the way down a one way street. Things get worse when the ball does go forward....which wa do we go which way do we go? The ball invariably heads towards the big fella. Why tout the skills of JR, Cleve, Schulz when these kids are crucified by a one dimensional game plan year after year. A succession of coaces have used the same path. This club needs to make some hard, seriously hard calls andget rid of the seniors. They obviously think they have their senior cards already as they are passengers on a journey to nowhere and we will never reach that destination until they are put off!
