lets review some of the super roosters in the caper

Was it Jeff Saru(?) the St Kilda ruckman who kicked a goal at Moorabin from the centre circle? Sure it bounced 10 metres out but it is still a fair roost.

Used to love watching The Goast roost the footy. Especially with the Torp.
Justin Charles used to give it a fair roost at times.
A guy called Campbell for Melbourne used to kick it a long way.
That Chapman that didnt make it at Hawthorn or Brisbane kicked it 70 or 80 metres in a kicking comp.

It was Jeff Fehring.
But I saw a bigger kick at Moorabbin when Teddy Whitten - with the man on the mark in the centre circle - kicked a goal that went through half goal post high. A huge kick that must have travelled nearly 85 - 90 metres. Biggest kick I've ever seen apart from Jack Dyer who claimed he kicked it into to the train at Glenerrie oval and the ball finished up in Ringwood.

Stephen Silvagni could let it fly when he wanted to as well. I saw him kick a barrel out from full back at a ground in Sydney once that landed over the wing and eventually bounced out of bounds (untouched) in the opposition's back pocket.

Sav Rocca remains numero uno among current players.

Billy Barrot kicked the best ball-burster I've ever seen in the 1969 grand final...... no better stage than in a grand Final at the MCG. It broke Carlton's heart, spirit and backbone and inspired his team mates in the process :o

Other favourites roosters were Jimmy Jess, Gary Ablett(except when he was playing against us :(), superboot Bernie Quinlan and little Gary Wilson.

Who are the best small super roosters ?

I used to reckon Daicos could get onto them. Remember the barrel he kicked from inside the square at Victoria Park on his non-preferred foot ? Exquisite timing that bloke. Garry Wilson could kick it a long way. Ray Huppatz was also very very long.

Bloody oath, Daicos was amazing. I used to love watching him and Coll-Richmond games were a must see for me for that reason. He used to kick a lot of 50-60m drop punt short passes too, if that makes sense. Only player I've ever seen do that regularly.

When weighing up length and accuracy, Roach was the best I've seen. Fair enough, Jess, Graham Rocca and co might have kicked it a bit longer, like regular 70m, but they were more launch one and hope it goes straight. But in his prime before his achilles and back injuries, Roach would stick them straight through from within 55-60 from a set shot on any angle.

Youre right tigersnake.....In 1980.....roachy had a conversion rate of 75%.......very very good return for shots in anyone.s language.......How would he be having a day out at telstra Dome I wonders? ;D

kayne pettifer would be close to the best at richmond right now. how many 60m set shot goals did he kick at the punt road end of the G last year???

you have a serious infatuation with kayno dont you ian?

why?

My father in law kicked out from full back on the Mansfield ground and it went through for a point at the other end. Imagine the spray he would have got on here if the net was around back then. He should have kicked the goal. D...du..nah can't say it. ;D

Interestingly Richmond wanted him to go and play for them but he couldn't afford it. He made more working for the railways and playing for Tocumwul (sp?)
