Win or Loss today did not have a bearing on our finals chances.... we were not going to make them anyway.

We have beaten 1 team in the 8 and have a tough few weeks coming up (which will show us where we really are at)

A few wins against lowly oppenents and everyone gets carried away about finals.... it happens every year and we lose focus on what we really are trying to achieve. No one intended or thought we would play finals this year anyway.

We have to stay focused on what we are working towards and thats building a team in which the foundations started last year. Keep enjoying the development of the young kids.... identify the holes in the team and work out those who are not our future. Its a process and we are only into the 2nd year.

We have probably over achieved a little this year and got everyones hopes up, but the reality is we are not much better than a bottom 4 side the way our list stands currently.

Every win is a bonus, enjoy them when they hapen :clap , but the more kids we keep blooding the brighter the future looks. 8)

In only 18 months we have seen the rise of: Lids , Raines , Tambling, Meyer, Foley and Thursfield ... still to come are the likes of Polo, White, JON, Hughes, Patto, Graham, McGuane etc.

Add to that the dramatic improvement of Pettifer & Simmons and the continued development of Newman & Hyde.

A much as we want to make finals, the reality is we are at least another 2 years away yet. Without a week-in-week-out full back, centre half back or centre half forward there is no way we can compete with the big boys yet.

Thoughts??

Finals were very achievable. Had we won we'd be a clear 7th on the ladder. Finals are still achievable but we blew a very good chance today.

Oooooooooooo shut down Tiger25! :hihi

What we need to focus on is getting lots of games into the kids and recruiting well in the draft.

Forget finals, we will be humiliated if we do make it.

Finals is not a priority this season. What was being looked for was improvement and I think that has been partially achieved. The culture is changing and today's result shows that the culture still needs work. Good sides don't drop games like this, they punish the teams they're up against, this is something that Richmond still has to learn.

YMBFK!

Righto... if we won today we would have been 7 wins.... where the other wins coming from.... we have pies, port, demons, swans, st.kilda, dogs, lions, blues, dons, eagles..... Of that we would only have a chance of beating Lions, Blues and Dons ... that's 10 wins and with a percentage as crap as ours how do you foresee us making the finals ::)

Agree CarnTheTiges .... to many think we are better than what we are. The improvment is great and thats what people should be looking at, not whether we make the 8 ot not.

Had we won today and cogs not injured finals would have been still a chance but tiger 25 is essentially right in what he says..

i'm glad it was hawthorn, we would have been nailed to the wall by a decent team today.
And I say that with all due respect to hawthorn.
Please don't think I'm disrespecting Hawthorn, but their own woes kept us within 12 goals.

I don't generally criticise Richmond, but today we were ... rudderless and capsized.
Leadership? Please!!
Come back Richo.
How bad were we without Coughlan?
We had some players out their today who signed their pink slips.
I would say they know who they are.

I agree with alot of what he said as well! But i'm stuffed if i'm talking about draft picks & so on for another half season & go through another summer thinking we are 3 years into a 5 year plan! We blew a goldern chance today, who says we couldn't beat Collingwood etc,i didn't think we would beat Adelaide or Geelong !  The Bulldogs have half their team out with Knee's & they continue to march on!

Read further than the first 13 words before you take me out of context.

It's the same old story isnt it? Blown chances are part of our makeup im afraid. Id say that performance today was worse than our bulldogs game. We basically played box hill and got pantsed. I was physically ill after that. Just total rubbish.
