Not so sure about the first rounders anymore.

Conca over Heppell? or Prestia?

Ellis? Well, we reportedly wanted Devon Smith so Ellis was the back-up.

Griffiths? Not quite a first rounder but we could have had Carlisle. Or Fyfe!

(Carlisle just kicked his 8th, after 19 marks last week.)

We still struggle to draft good kids.
Conca is a shocking top 10 selection

Fyfe and Carlisle...wow

This Griffiths boy has to put in quite a performance soon

Plenty on here had foresight too. Carlisle and Heppell were certainly in vogue prior to their drafts, but not Conca and Griffiths.

No doubt we're all going off limited highlights reels and a televised junior game. If that's all you considered you would have taken Rhys Palmer over Cotchin, and Buddy wouldn't have been drafted so high.

Still, with the Griffiths pick you'd have to say FJ went on attributes and not on performance or competitive hunger. And the latter part is so important, particularly for the big fellas.

I don't remember Carlisle being mentioned that much but Heppell certainly was, its pretty certain now we made a mistake in that selection even though Conca will be a good player for us.

It sure is TBH. Absolute no negotiable with talls.
That Chocco worked so hard with Elton and Griff early in the year on this is a concern in itself IMO.
I'm not sure you can teach white line fever. That comes from within.

Good post. I think Concs will be a 200 gamer.

Grigg is a big worry.

And yes, both he and Elton were picked on attributes alone. McBean at least has mongrel and he also has leadership in spades.

I just think it's time to shelve our search for the great white hope for this ND at least, perhaps next year also.

Apart from mid depth we seriously lack an attacking, nuggety backman who can kick.

This draft is a huge chance to get really good footballers who will play 150+ games. There is depth in that class. We really can get some foot soldiers through the midfield. If Pickett is gone there will be Brawshay, Ahern, Jordan De Goey ,Jayden Laverde at our first pick. And at the second round I can see a whole swag of quality mids sitting there as well. We must walk away with two mids first up.

As for your nuggety back, Wigg is your man. Brett Anderson from Inside footy called him "the best kick I've ever seen."

Or Liam Duggan. Has a lot of Brendon Goddard back flanker about him. Tall rangy, kicks the ball well, barks orders and makes others better.

Get a spot at the draft table Scooper, I'd be bloody happy with that kind of haul.

Say it every year but another top 40 pick would be super.

Bare Cotch, Lids, Dusty, Jack, Rance, Maric, I would have an open book.

Tell me what you think their worth. Be aggressive.

Hawthorn are desperate for key backs, Astbury for Ceglar?

Bulldogs are desperate for key forwards, Vickery for their first pick.

GWS are desperate for key backs, Astbury for Jono Rourke.

Get active, be aggressive. It feels like we are passive with our approach to trading.

I like your thinking Scoop. Be nice to have someone with your mindset on the recruiting staff at the RFC.

Man I would've dealt with the dogs last season RE: vickery. Massive opportunity lost.

Just because he is the whipping boy around here doesn't diminish and value we would get for him in a trade.

Reckon we are in a better position this year, the Dogs are on the up, momentum surging them forward. The only possible Melbourne side to compete with GWS and GC, blah, blah, blah. Results showing they are not far away. But they are desperate for a key forward 40-50 a year. Jake Stringer & Stewart Crameri can be that secondary line of mobile targets but they need a key target. And they need to come into the fold right away so the group can grow together. Forwards take longer so Vickery being slightly older then the core group of mids is a perfect fit. The Dogs will play themselves out of contention for one of the key forwards from this draft if they continue this run of form. But they might sneak into that bottom five area that gives them access to one of the left over talls but that would be a risk. I reckon Lions, Blues go tall for sure. That leaves one of Peter Wright , Patrick McCartin & Sam Durdin left. If Frawley leaves Melbourne they definitely go tall. Even if he stays they need a key forward to replace Mitch Clark. That leaves the Dogs adding another gun mid and rolling it over for another year or making a deal. Vickery has some value. He is better then any tall they have right now by a long way. He may finish off the year averaging two a week but structurally he makes them so much better.

Maybe to cut that off they go for Ty Vickery and trade pick 6. Or give back Tom Campbell and their 2nd pick. Or Nathan Hrovat and their second pick. What ever.

And I don't mind keeping Vickery, lot to work, heap of time on his side but it just depends on what is offered the other way.

Dogs have too many talls already. Vickery is best traded to Doos who would give a lower pick than Dogs.

Best we dont touch the dees while roos is there, far too cunning to secure a good deal from

Agree, but hopefully we can build up their confidence, which, in turn, will hopefully see them improve and impact matches.

Really? Who would be their key forward?

They've got Grant, Bonty, Crameri, Redpath, Stringer, Jones.

Williams and Roughy could be used as a forward.

Tom Campbell and Cordy as 200cm rucks....why more?
