Lids and Cotch - are they GC17 targets?

Raines and McGuane will surely be convinced to be traded back to their home state. Both are battlers and can look forward to a new opportunity.

Gary March and the Board had better get cracking on these uncontracted players before they miss the boat well and truly.

How much do they have to do with contract negotiations? I wouldn't have thought it was their area of expertise.

Correct, what is their area of expertise though?

Of course they'd be targets, they'll be having a go at every good player in the comp As our 2 franchise players though, something drastic would have to happen for them to leave. I'm not worried. Good players have character, and players with character play for more than money and don't like leaving when the chips are down. Everyone knows what people think of the Leigh Colberts and Scott Thompsons of the world (even though I used a footy plural, there are actually only one of each of them).

No its not their area of expertise, but s--t Rosy, the Board has the ultimate responsiblity to ensure that the BEST players are kept on contract at Richmond.

Its Craig Cameron's role to sign these players back up, but its the Boards role to MAKE SURE he damn well does what he's paid to do.

Waiting Waiting Waiting simply doesn't cut it when you got only a very few decent players at Richmond. Losing your best to another not even formed club, is not a option, hence the Board should be asking Cameron what is happening with our uncontracted players.

Who knows negotiations could be taking place and if so well and good. If not then Cameron needs a fire lit under him.

If Cotchin was signed up to another club this year because Richmond failed to do whatever was necessary to keep him here, then I'd be saying goodbye to the Board as well for their failure to oversee the operations of the club correctly.

This is my issue. Right now you would almost think the two of them silly to show loyalty.

There is not a single reason I can see, apart from salary cap room, that either of them would want to remain at Punt Road.

The situation and speculation with Wallet can only make this worse.

I am real worried....
As am I SP, as am I. The future is a concern as it is, but if we were to lose one or both of our best young players, well things get a whole lot worse.

New club with plenty of money, no bad history and a governing body keen to see the whole venture succeed vs. the rabble at Punt Road....would seem to be a no brainer.

Loyalty counts for nothing when your CONTINUALLY struggling as we are.

We should be nervous! ;)

We'll sign em up but its going to cost us heaps. This GC thing just pumps up the value of every uncontracted quality player in the league. I think the AFL have unwittingly (or otherwise) spelt the deathbed for a Victorian club or two. It's the poorer less performed clubs that will lose their best players, the ones who can ill afford to do so.

This whole GC saga is a shambles.

If the other clubs sign their best players then the GC won't have much choice or if they do they'll be giving up high draft picks, provided the AFL will let them do it.

Yeah well that is why its so important for Richmond to sign up our best players, they don't need to sign them to 5 year contracts, 2 years will suffice. The quicker we secure our better players then so much the better for us. We might have to accept a high draft pick from GC but they will be getting a dud player in return and I'd rather go with a draft pick than a dud like *smile* right now.

Agreed Massai, although I'd sign the likes of Cotchin up to a 3 year deal, even less likelihood of the AFL's demon offspring ever getting their dirty mitts on him.

you can bet on the Goldcoast having already made enquiries about their services...Lids definately.

isnt there two scott thompsons? Nathan Buckley springs to mind as an example of players who leave their club to achieve success. A (disloyal) fools paradise. Theres not really that much difference between $500 and $600K a year either, after tax. Dont panic on Lids and Cotch. Im more worried about us resigning a Raines or a Pettifer (note singular tigersnake) on 400K.

And they wont be getting a whole heap of "stars" either. McGuane and Raines will fit in nicely as 2 of their "homegrown" marquee players.

That is wishful thinking I fear. They will set their sights much higher than those guys.
