Again, as for Deledio, a most creative player. Why ruin him by bashing his body against strongly built forwards.
To me, put him back on the wing to keep him in the game, with small stints on the ball. By the time he gets to 22, he will be our premier player.

Save FB for the players who don't quite have it further up the ground. But still encourage them to play attacking/rebounding footy.

Agreed Phanto - do the names Flower and Greig ring any bells - always in the game - back or forward. I want the Cogs Tucks and the Foley's of this world dishing out to the Lids, Blings and later, the JON's of this team.

Sorry Lambsy, can't back you on this one - HBF at a pinch only!
Did you back him on his love for Rory Hilton?

Re: Lids to full back

lids to FB, are you taking the *smile*? HBF, W, C, RR or HFF for me

Yep, not a problem with a wingman going to a hbf.
Francis Bourke is great example of a wingman going to a hbf.
I suppose one could cite the example of *smile* Clay going to FB, but in my opinion that is a bit different. The Tiger team of that era had just about every other position on the field covered.

What the :police:  :sheep ?? Lids decides not to wear full backless gown who changed the title of the thread  :sheep
What are you trying to say suddenly Lids belongs at the Mardi Gras?  :bash

No worries Pharace.

Phanto you'll find that Bourkey played a bit of full back late in his career.  Anyway not suggesting a career path for Lids in defence.  As a reminder here are the first three sentences of this thread.

"I am actually quite excited about the kids getting another chance against a top side.  While Lids would be wasted at full back when our team is up and running I was thinking a shot at a key defensive assignment may be a nice development task for young Lids.  He plays tall, had good closing speed and of course a great offensive game - perhaps Hentchell. "

Ahh the power of a good headline, though.  Nice team picked good to see Meyer and Patto get a call - someone else thought that was a good idea.  If Kellaway doesn't come up I wonder who will play on Hentchell?
???

Lids to full back ..... is like taking the ferrari on a 4WD fishing trip and towing the caravan.

lamb's got this one right. Which richmond player got closest to the ball most times last week?

Yep, the full back. Granted much of the time the ball was going through for a goal at the time.

but even so Deledio's probably our best player and we need him where the action is.

Maybe we can give him a ladder too.

I dont think playing Lids at full-back for a taste is a completely crazy idea, however I tend to like the idea of playing him out of the middle better, and putting another creative players in the role J Bowden plays if he has to take on the primary forward.

Cheers

just on a different note...you gotta be kidding me with that avatar iitb!!!! :o

Ive got a more conservative one now. The young hormonal guys would much prefer my dancing tiger now than a feamle with a tiger painted on her backside. Oh well.
I am shattered.

Sorry Shawry. I didn't think anyone actually read my posts!
Thanks iitb (not for changing, but for reading my post)

"Yep, the most creative youngster at the club played in a negative position.
What's next?"

I'm very much for attacking/rebounding out of defence. David Dench & Peter Knights were my favourite defenders, but neither of these players were the most creative players in their teams.

Again, as for Deledio, a most creative player. Why ruin him by bashing his body against strongly built forwards.

why not try it for one week when we're undermanned against a star he could learn a hell of a lot from? who else can we match up on riccuitto?

PS RW, I am wondering why you haven't mentioned that in the only two games Rayzor hasn't played this year, we have lost by over 19 goals - Is he worth 20 goals to the team? ;)

LOL...I have thick skin lamb...but I wouldn't dare make that comment even in jest...besides, I don't want to put Rosy through the probable meltdown of the board when the entire membership steps up to ridicule me all at once all day long...plus another 50 new signups to join the party... :hihi

I agree Lids is a natural midfielder, but I think (as you do) that it wouldn't hurt to try him in select key defensive roles while we're depleted. I don't think he'd be any more knocked around in those select roles (obviously you're not going to play him on a monster forward who wrestles all day) than he would do pinch-hitting in midfield. I'd just look at it as a learning experience for him while the opportunity is there...one heck of a way to break a tagger getting on top of him in the future...move him to a KP role and use his aerial abilities.

why would you play one of our most creative players at FB. He is a creative player who plays best when left around the centre line to do what he does best. Even when so depleted u just dont play one of your best ball getters so deep.....

Did you back him on his love for Rory Hilton?

Back him "on his love for Hilton..........!" that might be stretching it (even Lambsy didn't love him as much as you hated him ;)), but I did think Rory was serving a useful purpose and wasn'the worst option (worse options would have been Archibald, Gilmour, Limbach, Moore, Morrison, Rodan and Stafford). We had precious little up fwd and was the nearest thing we had to Brown while he was out (read nearest ol Mighty Boy, not same ;))

Anyways, heard a rumour that Lambsy is now the No 1 ticket holder at Euroa FC ;D
