Joel Mc Donald and Daniel Merrett may be squeezed out of the Brisbane side due to salary cap restraints according to this mornings Herald-Sun.

Id be keen on either, paticularly Merrett who's a big lump of a lad with a huge future IMO.
I know Matthews rarely lets good players go,but I reckon Merrett could be worth a punt with the upside being Richos apprentice.
We'll need a new 'power' forward in 2-3 seasons time, and I reckon he'd suit us fine.
Having played and trained with Alistair Lynch would have been helpful in his development as well.
For the right deal I hope we pursue both players.

I would go for Merrett for similar reasons but no thanks to Joel or Beau McDonald.

BTW, Beau McDonald has got a cheek to walk out on the Lions, having been offered a minimum base contract, having missed 2 years through injury. I reckon that stinks! :bash

I totally agree, he is only worth that anyway, even when healthy.

I'm not a fan of Merrett. I reckon he's a bit of a Jurica / Quentin Lynch. Yes, he's a huge unit but I haven't seen him take consistent strong contested marks even at QSFL level.

How old is he??

Is there a chance he will develop in 2 years time into a more mobile marking forward?

It's crazy how some players react to a pay cut. They must not live in the real world. Brisbane will be better off giving any opportunties to Wood and Spaanderman (wish we'd got Wood last year).

He'd be 21 or so. There is a chance he will develop in the coming years but he's a FF only for mine.

Best effort was 12 possessions, but given his size, doesn't take enough marks for me. Most number of marks was 7 but generally around the 3 to 4 mark.

best goalkicking effort was 3 - 3 with not many scoring shots in other games - even Pettifers results are better

Daniel Merret should stay at brisbane hes nothing special and a couple of my mates have played with him at the suncoast lions (lions reserves) and neither of them rate him

One of the Brisbane players (sorry, can't remember the exact source, anybody?) suggested that Merrett was the quickest player at Brisbanme over one of the sprint trips. Might have been 10m.

Looks a lot more athletic than Jurica but agreed, not a powerful aerialist. Neither is Barry Hall or Warren Tredrea. The rugger background suggests he'll never be as smart as either of those blokes.

Might make a player, IMO.

Me either, can anyone provide a link??

It was in one of the papers on Thursday or Friday. They offered him a close to minimum contract after he is coming off two knee reco's. He refused it and walked out on them. That seems to be the guts of it anyway.
Can't remember the paper sorry.
