List Of Potential Assistant Coaches

Agree in most part.

A & B) If we took on two assistant coaches and a development coach though (it is possible since March mentioned it, though i would think unlikely) they will not all be senior coach material.

Personally, in light of the fact we are keeping all our assistants I think we just need one coach and one development coach. Which is why some like myself are discussing lesser roles like development. I've said in other previous roles, the assistant coach we bring on I would hope is a potential senior coach, would love to have a strong "heir apparent" type as a potential at Punt Rd.

C) I don't think anyone has suggested someone being brought to the club based on who they know, however one of the facts of successful recruitment/team building is you have to bring people in who can work together. If you are reffering to me asking about west's relationship with wallace I was curious to know considering the way wallace left bulldogs how their realtionship is these days. I know wallace is still close with some bulldogs and others have taken him off their christmas list. If West didn't respect or get along with West now it wouldn't be smart to bring him in.

Hi there Dyer Disciple,

Must say I wasn't thinking of anything you had said when I hit the keyboard running :) My thoughts were more based on...
Royal getting a gig at Punt Rd -> ties to Wallet from Footscray days but what had he done prior?
Rawlings -> ties to our very own 'Cho. Now here is a guy who gets hired as our forward specialist coach when he was a poor forward himself. As an NBA fan I was reading this morning about how the Atlanta Hawks had put on Mark Price, who is one of the purest shooters ever to play basketball, as a specialist 'shooting consultant'. IMO only one of these two 'hirings' makes sense... and it isn't the one at Punt Rd.

On the other parts, I think it is extremely beneficial for a club to have a succession plan in place to keep the 'club anointed' coaching philosophy, team direction etc heading in the right/same/best direction. Maybe Wallace/RFC think that one of Rawlings, Royal or King will provide this down the track?

Cheers K3,

Nice post. I agree with you. I've mentioned a few times over last few months I would like to see a gun assistant come to to the coach as a potential heir.

It's a tricky task though and very difficult to pull off. With wallace going into a crucial year of a decision being made on his contract you have to be careful what messages you send.

Since we are keeping all our assistants it also has to be someone who will be able to work in well with them or it will be a self defeating appointment.

As far as it being someone on the inside already there, you never know.

Personally I think Wallace will either be with us another 4 or 5 years or will be gone next year. So wether there is a exisiting heir right now may be a moot point.

Buckly, West and Harvey for me are halfway to being outstanding coaches. All three were meticulous about their athletic preparation, disciplined to the point of fanaticism and were better than anyone around them, champions - in other words they have something to teach and young testestorone full showboats will actually listen.

The second half of course is if they can instill their personal qualities in others and teach others the lessons they had to learn.

I would be immensely happy with anyone like these three who can teach the disciplines it takes to succeed.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Scott West go straight into a coaching role. I've never seen anyone train more than he did.

Watch West train often did you?
