I thought North fought back well on Sunday but really they are going no where.
We let them back in but with our best side we would have gone on to a very easy win.
Buckley could not have missed that.

I think we are coming on pretty well in most areas. I couldn't believe how often we actually shepperded which is something that hardly ever happened in Terry's time. Young players like Edwards, Post and Thursefield all showed a bit. Mcguane Polo Moore Ritchie etc form the basis of a solid defensive unit.

Our mids are doing pretty well and Newman lived up to my expectations and had his best game of the year as a forward.

The greatest areas of concern remain key position forward and ruck. Jack is too slow for footy at this level and I just don't see this changing. Also Angus Graham doesn't have a jump and remains unconvincing.

Two changes could be made which would at least tell us something.

1)Schulz in at full forward with Lids at CHF. With the greater ability of our mids and forwards including Newman, to deliver the ball I'd expect Jay to play with a bit more confidence in the key forward post than he has in the past under Terry. He must also understand he is on his last chance and is likely to be traded if he doesn't perform. No harm in giving him the time and in emphasizing to Jack that he has a lot of work still to do to make it at the top level.
2)Our ruck stocks are at an all time low. TV shows promise but obviously he needs time. Browne and Putt are not ready. The cupboard is bare. In the circumstances I think we should give some time to Graham Polak. He is a good size ala Paddy Ryder and he can jump. Additionally he is mobile and should should be able to catch a few.

We are not great at trading but this year we have the advantage of a low position and the pressure created by the pre-season draft. A ruckman would be nice. Bailey, Hampson, West, may be ready. What about a big offer to Drew Pettrie to join us in the psd?

Jack's top 25 in the league for marks and top 15 for contested marks. Not bad for a 20 year old. Reckon he might be OK despite his speed counselor.

I had to laugh at the exchange of handballs between McMuddle and King on the Southern Stand wing in the 2nd quarter - about 4 went to each others feet.

Quality all the way.

Personally I'd say *smile* is gone and that we would be damn lucky to get anything for him.

Package him with Cleve and McMahon, and see if Port bite (Adelaide certainly won't).

Don't mind this at all Mementus. Shulz has to get at least 2 games at FF to at least increase his possible trade value or show us something. However Jack's form has been pretty good. His marks (forgetting last 1/4 against the Roos) have been sticking and he is coming on. Make him stay high CHF with Post in the pocket, Shulz out of the square and Nahas at his feet.

I like giving Angus a spell, he has had a crack this year and has improved a lot but has plateaued and slid back in last few weeks. Polak into the no 1 ruck. What is the worst that can happen, we lose?? Now is our chance to experiment a bit. Graham will be on our list next year but we have a decision to make with Polly.

He'll be a very good player.....early days. Smart footy brain and can take a good mark. His greatest area of concern is goal kicking not pace.

I really believe Jack will be a terrific player for us at CHF for the next 10 years. He looks slow but he knows where to run. He's a keeper for mine.

With Post at FF coming along nicely and Morton, Nahas and Vickery in there too I like to look of our forward line.

I also like our midfield and ruck stocks. Graham is a good trier who has improved markedly this year. We need to develop (i.e. play) Browne and then have Pattison and Putt at Coburg.

My concern is our backline, especially the kicking skills of McGuane, Thursfield, Rance and Moore. They need to like as a group because the modern game demands pin point distribution from the back half. We need to get an elite kick down back to complement Newman. I think Collins or Connors could be this player.

I would also like to see if Schulz can play CHB (he can kick). If not then delist as he is not a FF.

Raines, King, McMuffin etc are not the answers to our back half.

Geez list problems.

Its easier to name who id keep going forward than who id get rid of, save much more time.

List needs quality midfielders , Big Bodied key back with height 195 cm, 2 key forward prospects to replcae Hughes and Schulz, anotherruck to replace Pattison (dud), a small defender and another small forward.

*smile*ING SCHULZ :duh :duh i cannot believe people still cling to this lazy, list clogging dud.

Agree with all that. But that's three or four drafts at least there Craig (probably more given the draft bastardisation). Patience will be required.

I've spoken about this on other threads and this is one "stat" that the books don't show and that is kicks and handballs that go to the feet ( or behind or well in front) of the intended target. This stops any momentum that the player may have had. And as mentioned it doesn't show up on the stat sheets as a clanger in inefficient disposal so the players stats will look good.

Forget schulz. He's finished.

Disagree strongly on the assessment of Jack. I have seen good improvement from him this year.

I have also liked what I have seen of Mitch - particularly after we got a couple more talls into the forward line. Both look like 50+ goal players to me.
