PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I thought North fought back well on Sunday but really they are going no where.
We let them back in but with our best side we would have gone on to a very easy win.
Buckley could not have missed that.

I think we are coming on pretty well in most areas. I couldn't believe how often we actually shepperded which is something that hardly ever happened in Terry's time. Young players like Edwards, Post and Thursefield all showed a bit. Mcguane Polo Moore Ritchie etc form the basis of a solid defensive unit.

Our mids are doing pretty well and Newman lived up to my expectations and had his best game of the year as a forward.

The greatest areas of concern remain key position forward and ruck. Jack is too slow for footy at this level and I just don't see this changing. Also Angus Graham doesn't have a jump and remains unconvincing.

Two changes could be made which would at least tell us something.

1)Schulz in at full forward with Lids at CHF. With the greater ability of our mids and forwards including Newman, to deliver the ball I'd expect Jay to play with a bit more confidence in the key forward post than he has in the past under Terry. He must also understand he is on his last chance and is likely to be traded if he doesn't perform. No harm in giving him the time and in emphasizing to Jack that he has a lot of work still to do to make it at the top level.
2)Our ruck stocks are at an all time low. TV shows promise but obviously he needs time. Browne and Putt are not ready. The cupboard is bare. In the circumstances I think we should give some time to Graham Polak. He is a good size ala Paddy Ryder and he can jump. Additionally he is mobile and should should be able to catch a few.

We are not great at trading but this year we have the advantage of a low position and the pressure created by the pre-season draft. A ruckman would be nice. Bailey, Hampson, West, may be ready. What about a big offer to Drew Pettrie to join us in the psd?
