My local take-away joint has a framed 2002 team photo, and it was interesting to see that two-thirds of the list 4 years ago is no longer at the club. And all of the coaching staff except Dave Weadon.

Just starting with the back row, eight of ten have gone. In all, 28 of the 42 on the list have retired or been pushed into retirement (Knights), delisted or traded.

And of the 14 still on the list, the names of most remaining since 2002 bring about much gnashing of teeth on this forum. I'd expect at least four will retire or be traded, delisted or retired at the end of this season.

It's an amazing stat given that the photo was taken only a few months after a Prelimary Final when hopes were high for success.

It's also a reminder to the teeth-gnashers that the culling has been on in earnest for some time, but the result is a lost "generation" of players that has left us with a gaping hole in the age structure of our list.

Which is why I can't foresee us culling 7-8 players like some people here have suggested. I can probably see maybe 5 going (Including retirements).

And given that some of the players I have question marks over might come out and play blinders, even that's a very rough guess.

we need a core playing list of 15 regulars with a further 12 players competing for the remaining 7 spots. In addition, four young and second year players making an appearance for a couple of games.

We have had to turn over so many players cos we are the worst drafting/ trading side in the last 20 years.
