My boss was lucky enough to be in a corporate box for Friday night's game, and they were making fun of the Dockers. The guy who was the host for the box, was someone who'd had a heavy involvement in West Aussie football. He said at the time Fremantle were entering the league, they originally wanted to call them West Australia, because giving the team a city/suburban name might limit their supporter base. They were also going to be called the Anchors - hence the big anchor that's on the jumper for Freo at the moment.
Of course, someone wrote the name up, and realised that the name could be shortened to WA Anchors, so they ditched it, and changed both names to what we have today. True story, some of you may have already heard it, but it made me giggle.
