Disappointing to see so many Richmond players being unable to kick 50+ metres for goal. Schulz pops one up to the top of the square, Simmonds and Lids don't make the distance when on the run, Brown, Patto and Richo pass off.

Yet Melbourne seemed toback themselves in and do it on the bit.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your last sentence.

I recall one with Deledio, running in from the middle of the ground, getting to 60 metres out, and instead of backing himself and running a couple more metres and having a shot, he kicks it to Brown in the goalsquare with 3 demons to beat.

Hopefully (and I'm sure it will) this will come with more experience.

The problem with the kicking was due to the late intake of their supplements prior to the game.

I heard they took the Musashi 'Arousal' just before they ran out, and it kicked in to their system after half time.

;D Nice bottle of red tonight gpb?

Long kicking?  Though I had clicked on a retro-post from the Frawley days.  Kicking it long to Richo, Simmonds, Stafford, ect.. got us absolutely nowhere for years.  TW is changing the mindset of the players to look for options.  As tonight demonstrated we still have some learning to do.

Nah mate, just @#$%&$@ pissed off by the ^&@@$ usual duds that have let us down over the years.

GPB,
I thought Gaspar was one of the players who earned his money.
Are you talking about Browny and J.Bowden?

If you need to know who they are, refer to Diggler & Laff's posts, this man/person/people has nailed them all.

But I want to hear you say it.
For all I know this man/person/people may not even exist.
For mine, a few of the worst tonight aren't usually bagged on this site.

everytime we kicked it long we goaled - pettifer, schulz, rich and simmonds.
Aboslutely 8ball. We *smile* around with it for 3 & a half quarters, only to simplify the game & move it quickly, long & direct to a much more open forward line. Too late!

The fact that we got nowhere over those years probably says more about the players that we kicked long too than the style. Although I'm all for adaptability, I've seen too many premierships won by long kicking sides to discard it. A style of play is only as good as the teams ability to execute it - IMO our primary goal should be to find players that we can successfully kick long too.
