There apears to be a standard mantra that the world might end if we dont use our early draft picks this year on KPP - phooey!
We already have too many talls on the list, 14 out of 36 if you count P Bowden and 15 out of 37 if you count Gus Graeme.
7 KPP's are 22 or under Polak, Schulz, Thursfield, Hughes, Mcguane, Limbach and Pattison.
Moore is not much older. People query their ability - fair enough - but Polak Schulz Thursfield and Hughes appear to offer as much in terms of ability and talent as any other group of 4 KPP players of the same age at other clubs. Also wouldn't write off Pattison as a 200 gamer.
We are deficient in good midfielders and that's what we need to draft - We need to find Kerrs, Judds, Cousins and Dal Santos. If there is a Carey or Riewoldt or Pavlich available grab him but otherwise midfielders, midfielders, midfielders - guys that can get the ball and use it and hopefully have the physical attributes (speed stamina strength etc) as well
Finally recent successful sides did not use early picks on talls.
Sydney - traded for Hall, Jolley, Ball, Chambers (d'oh') Richards and now Everitt. Only home grown boy is Roberts Thomson and he aint no star and I think they had some preferential right over him anyway (rookie?)
West Coast home developed KPPs but Cox a rookie lister and most others lowish picks as well. Used low picks on superstar mids.
Adelaide - Bock, Hudson and Rutten off rookie list. I think Hentshell a highish pick but other KPPs bread and butter types. They play a midfielder at full forward and their wingman is their second best forward. Traded for Welsh and Stevens.
As another poster stated it appears we trade for talls or use low or rookie picks for other talls - and use the draft proper to find midfield gems - eminently sensible as talls have a longer 'delivery' time and as this method has been proven as the way to go by West Coast, Sydney and Adelaide in recent times. In fact the only team that is taking a talls first policy is Hawthorn and I think that was only a rationalisation for missing out on Tambling and they picked up some good mids in 2005 draft - the hawks aint done much yet though
Yet many posters want more talls - when do we have enough talls - 50% of the list 60% - crazy talk!! TW and GM have got this one right!!
