Major Concerns!

The title of this thread is "Major Concerns", that only makes sense if it is a major concern to have one of the top 3 young forward talents in the competition! There are only a couple of teams who even have guys Jack's age and size even getting a game let alone perofrming the way he has against some top defences. Geelong has Tom Hawkins who is going OK, West Coast have Josh Kennedy (who is ayear older) and in his 3rd year now seems to be getting a wriggle on. Apart from that is there any other "under 20 years - under 20 games" KPP size (190cm+) player doing anything. I can guarantee there is about 15 other teams who would be happy to take Jack of our hands at this point. Can't wait to see him in 2 more preseasons. KPP players with "footy smarts" are hard to find and I think in Jack we have an absolute gun.

Sarge is Mr Inbetween - on the ground. He needs a good reader of the game to take him to the ball. Then he is sad below the knees - had early high hopes for Sarge, alas he will be SA bound I think.

Maybe bralace.
I found it surprising that he was dropped because I thought he'd been good this year (Aints game aside).
Also since going back his form at the Burgers from those watching indicate he's been pretty handy.

Still if he doesn't get recalled this week, you may well be right that his career at Richmond could well be over.

Is anybody else concerned that it is now 3-4 weeks since the big fella has been spending long periods of time away from the forward line and we still have not seen one of the youngsters really put their hand up to say ....."listen boys, I am the new go to man"!

I was staggered to hear that Richo is still the no.1 target when going inside 50. Morton is 2nd.

I am not sure who the answer is .......Polak can take a grab but can't kick, Shultz can kick but has proved to be inconsistent when played up forward, Jack is more suited to hit up flanker type role and Cleve is yet to even really establish himself at any level.....just worried that the Richo's great form and some general improvement across the board is hiding the fact that we still rely too much on the Richo Man to generate a decent score.....

Any thoughts?

I'd rather see 10 or so individual goal scorers per game than Richo kicking 6 or 7 or 8 and only another handful chipping in. Less predictable that way.
Of course, the other way to go is the traditional track which the Hawks are taking (with Buddy and Roughy) but both have the merits and have been proven.
WCE won a flag without a power forward of note (i dont rate lynch and he really only bobbed up after WCE were established as a contender) and Before them, Port had Tredrea, the opposite style to WCE.

With Richo in the mix for another few years and a swag of others rotating through the fwd line, we can kick winning scores even if Richo is held on a particular day. We can win a flag with the framework we have, but as claw will most likely point out sometime in the next few seconds, there are still holes in our squad.

Did we really expect anything to change in 4 weeks? Personally I've never been sold on the 'Richo is stunting youngsters growth' theory but I don't think things just click within 4 weeks. The key forward will have to come from one of Hughes or Schulz. Reiwoldt is still far too lightly framed to take on that role. Morton is a flanker. Polak, I think is very good in the forward line as more of a key position however he needs to somehow work on his kicking issues for goal. Who else do we have at this stage?

Im not worried about Polaks kicking. Apparently there was a guy called Foley that 14 other clubs dismissed becauase he couldnt run and couldnt kick...... :o ....... BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH :rofl :cutelaugh

If Foles can do it, Polak can too. Look at Richo's kicking this year. 25.13 or there abouts? Similar to 1995 before he did his knee. If i recall he was 27.3 after 6? Anyone correct me?

What about giving Moore a go at full forwrd for a couple of games.

he leaps. has safe hands, he is ultra on the burst and has taken two ripper contested marks in the last games

I seem to recall seeing Moore play forward early in his career and he looked alright. I would rather see some of these potential KPFs we have drafted (*smile*, Cleave, Jack) given an extended run in the same position to see what they really can do before putting Kel forward, but I think people shouldn't dismiss Moore from being a pinch hitting forward.

I keep looking at the young kids on our list and shaking my head at the way we are playing most of them. Chopping, changing, dropping, recalling. It is no wonder they aren't showing a heck of a lot. Spud was decried by many, but he got it spot on with Cogs when he told him that he was playing the next 10 games, to not worry about getting dropped and to just play footy. Cogs didn't look back until he got injured.

Surely Hughes, for example, is ready for that kind of opportunity. If not, then we'll see you in the SANFL next year Cleaver.

Neither Thursfield, Moore or McGuane can play forward. I don't think Polak is the answer as a forward (or a back for that matter), as apart from marking he has no other tricks. I'd really qusetion Polak's future given the progress of the abovementioned three and Schulz when played back.

Riewoldt will be a handy third tall in a team with two decent key forwards. When Richo's up the ground, Schulz is the best bet at FF. However the problems start when Richo needs a break as neither he or Schulz can operate near each other. On top of that, i'm yet to see Schulz display the work rate needed when he's moved out to CHF (especially in the St Kilda game) when he's required to undertake that role.

As far as Hughes goes, he's yet to display that he's up to this level. Looks ok in patches (mark against Carlton), but needs to kick soem bags at Coburg to earn a spot back in the Seniors and when there show someting hat he hasn't so far. Reminds me of a player called Dan Foley in the early 80's, looks the goods but didn't deliver.

Congratulations ToO, you've unwittingly uncovered Sarge's problem - he's pre-occupied with the fact you've stated above - he feels he can't compete and now that is flowing into his football - you've got to do something ToO - the future of the club rests on you ;) :hihi

Thanks for the advice aunty pharace. I'll take it under advisement.
I take it that's put down to your previous experience with the departure of your heart broken former lover Andy (where is he know?) Krakouer?
You really should stick to football matters as you haven't set the best example in this case. :-* ;D

Yes it is Major Concern (did u like the link back to the thread) that a player the calibre of Andy Krak had to be given the space to find himself. As you have shown so much concern, I'm delighted to bring you up to speed on his latest footballing exploits:

This is a great post.

I agree with Steamer in that we do need to draft a tall forward in this year's draft with an early pick.

For mine Polak is not a forward (reminds me of Jason Cloke in his ability to play one role only a loose man in defense) nor is Schulz. I think Schulz can play as a CHB.

As for the Steamer, he is borderline for mine.
