Mark and Goal of the Year

You can't blame the AFL for the Lloyd result. It was voted by the public wasn't it?
Disagree. They need to accept the responsibility for making this a web based $ spinning exercise that can only be won by the bloke with the most admirers. Lloyd's goal (or party trick) winning is an embarrassment - surely even for Lloyd himself.

KB is on now defending the choice of Lloyd and being predictably self righteous, his only defence is how unique it was. Patrick Smith doesn't think it should have been goal of the year.

AA selectors.

So what was all the public voting for?

I don't think the public 'voted' as such. The idea was to pick the MOTY and GOTY as decided by the AA selectors.

I'm certainly not making any accusations here, but if somebody in a position to know happened to let it slip that Lloyd's goal had a good chance of being adjudged GOTY, the recipient of the information would be in a favourable position to win the competition. :theyareontome

Alternatively, the AA selectors knew that if they chose a goal that only heavily biased Essendon fans would vote for, then the chances of no-one choosing the two "of the Year's" would be increased. Perhaps then the prize would be "allocated" to one of the AA panel...

The whole thing is a joke, Bartlett loves this sort of thing. Stir up a bit of controversy, people ring up his show or sms or email and more people listen and then he digs in and infuriates everyone and then more people listen to his show. Same with the hands in the back thing. He is conflicted.

I reckon there would have been one goal per week, at least, that was better than Lloyd's.

Don't have any problem with the mark. A cracker!

You have GOT to be kidding me... ::)

Plenty of jokes in the AFL this year but this has to be the best for the year. There were so many great goals this year and they chose Lloyd's? How many AA selectors are there, surely one out of the lot of them would have piped up about this ridiculous decision.
