Match Preview Vs Hawthorn

On Schulz, I know it was only Franklin but JS did give him a hiding. And Franklin's exactly the sort of player that can stretch the Sarge, with his running game. Most of you will have noticed that Jay often gets a bit lost against hard leading players. Encouraging stuff.

I thought Sarge looked very composed and did a very nice job down back.  Looked like he had been playing there for years.

Maybe misleading but from the radio broadcast it seems that Hall and Schulz were our only talls in the backline. Roughead and Franklin were kept pretty much under control so it seemed that oiur boys did OK?. Joel had a bad day. Big deal. He is a proven player and will be back to his best when it counts.

Of the other defenders Hartigen got a lot of it and ran with it. He was caught a few times and will learn from the experience. White did a bit as did Raines and imo these three should be perservered with.

Roach was beaten by a pretty good player but tried hard all day and certainly didn't embarras himself.
Bateman had the best of his opponent was it Hyde or Bling. Johno, Tucky and Rodan all did well and Simmo did well in the hitouts but not so much around the ground. Our half forward line was beaten and it appears my man Patto had a difficuld day. Krak and P Bowden did OK in patches.

Richo had a bad day kicking wise but was often double teamed. This has been going on for ever and won't change as long as Richo remains the focal point. As an experiment I'd love to see him named as a f/pocket with Lids at full forward and Browny on the other side???

Staff had a bad day on a gd that greatly favours his game and I must say that I really don't think he is up to it any more. Even Knoble as a forward, would provide more of a contest than Staff at this stage. Rather than either of these in the forward line why not try Mcguane at CHF. Not a great mark in a pack but he is good when its put out in front and has the speed, guts and the kicking. Experiment with a hf line of Bowden, Mcguane & Krak/Pettifer.  Why not? Playing him will help rather than hinder his development in my opinion

Actually I am very upbeat because we lost. We got very close w/o  Browny, Cogs, Pettifer and Gas. We found out a bit about a few of our younger players in Schulz, Harts, Rodan and White on the positive side of things and perhaps that while we have Staff in the forward line, Richo will play against his own opponent and Staffs as well. Foley also had a disappointing day.

Now we get to experiment and imo CHF /  FF should be the focus. Meyer, Polo and Mcguane should come in for our next game.

What were peoples take on Roach being put on Williams.

A) This game likely being his last, but being rewarded for really putting in over the pre season.
B) Being set up - like a lamb to the slaughter
C) Wallace genuinely thought he was the best man on our list for the job. Our new small backman.
D) None of the above

I  am actually as pleased as you can get when we have a loss tonight. We played a near full strength Hawks side, with us missing 7-8 of our best 22. We played the worst game we could have played, while Hawthorn played at their best, yet we lost by 10 points only. What's the big deal?

I can't see much in him and am starting to understand why his father was concerned when Tom joined us, however I think another season would be enough to show whether he can make it or not.  I doubt today was his last.

As much as I hate losing I agree with you stu. There were moments when I went into Frawley-era
depression but by half-time I came to my senses.

I don't think the hawks have a lot more improvement for this season. I think our best is still better than theirs.

LOL Don't get me wrong, I hate losing. It's said how many times I let the F-Bomb go during the telecast of a NAB Cup game. :-[ :hihi

Looking at Hawthorn's full-strength side today, they will be gone by Round 12.

Enough I think.   Might be time to get back on topic or lock the thread.  >:(

What an opportune moment for a kookaburra to commit hari kari and blow up our transformer.

Still the candle lit Chinese and a couple of glasses of Fruity Lexia were nice and relaxing.  I think the kooka did me a favour.

I was a bit dissapointed that we lost today, but it is only NAB cup. Does anyone know where and who we play next week now? I better not a sh*t ground, we dont need any more injuries.
I was talking to Marc Murphy and he seemed like a nice guy, said he was very nervous and was ready to play at 8 this morning, i told him to come join the tigers and he said he cant because lids has his number. Did anyone see Kelleway there today? I saw most players who werent playing except Kelleway, Moore, Meyer and Casserly

My take on tonight - very poor game by teh tiges especially in the first half.

Positives

Schulz easily the best big man ay the tiges - cleaned up Franklin but not much of a scalp at this stage.  We need another Schulz to play at FF,  Has it all marks beautifully, kicks beautifully, reads the play well, very composed and hard as nails.

Raines - can hold down a small defenders/wing position.  Coming along nicely.

Rodan - is needed to break the lines - played well

White - promising.

Newman - great to see him on ball -only midfielder bar Lids (and Cogs by hand) who can consistently hurt the opposition with the ball,

Negatives

We now have two Bowdens - although I notice they like to kick it to each other a lot - Paddy played exactly like he played at Werribee - funny that!!

Hartigan - "Did someone say periperal vision"  NoTTTTTT!

Roach - I like the kid so no comment.

Foley - not tonight - but I'm patient

Summary

Clearly missing Pettifer.

Clearly missing Brown

Clearly missing Gas (and to a lesser extent Kellaway and Thursty)

Knobel probably a better bet than Pattison at this stage.

If we dont shake off the rust doggies will hand out a hiding in round 1.

Hartigan's periphial vision was disgraceful but so was the talk around him to not tell him he was 'hot'. Most training reports talk of how quiet our group is and it shows in situations like this. I know it is only pre-season but I agree with those who have said we looked like the worst team in the comp tonight. Based on that effort and the Frawley-esque style of play we will finish bottom 4. If I was Plough I would make them all sit through the pain of watching that whole game like I had to and then would go and flog them on the track.

I've seen enough to say that the RFC will not win more than 10 games this year.

Pattison will not make it.

Howat forget it.

Roach, he'll sleep good tonight but  :scold

Richo could of won us the game tonight, but poor misses cost us the game.

Jackson doesn't show much, and struggles to get into the game.

Hartigan must have learnt from Rodan.

Both run and play the same way (sometimes too much flair) and have decision-making problems.
