Appears Mathew Egan,s career maybe over according to Niel Balme.Latest reports back from the Sydney Doctor isnt that flash with his foot injury.Gotta feel sorry for the kid as it appears his desire to play in the 07 final series has had huge ramifications.

Sad if true, certainly understandable though if it is. It's looked pretty grim for him for a long time now, they certainly did everything they could.

Letting players play with minor injuries during finals is part of our game.

Just not at all costs...

Would it be like us losing Thursfield forever because we wanted him to play in the 2009 finals campaign?

Anyone remember exactly what happened?

A foot that will never be strong enough to support AFL footy is the underlying issue here. His navicular bone is causing him all sorts of pain even after they removed some screws.

The rumours were about on PRE this time last year the he was finished.

As for compensation, Jason Snell, Adrian Whitehead. And now Egan. Hang on, two of the trio are from the same club aren't they?

He was injured at work and it was the employer's doctor/s who advised him. The club let him play and they employed the quacks. They're cattle-trucked.

Bad luck for the bloke. I've been a fan of his work. Shame the outlook is so grim. But he's a damn sight better off than he would have been twenty years ago.

FWIW I feel for him. One of the game's victims if not by any means the worst off. A hero in his way.

sheesh they have had a tough run at geelong n ablett who has much talent regardless of what others say cant make his mind up if he wants to play or not and ultimately retires. lonergan who i dont rate does a kidney. and now egan who i really rate. it took him a little while to establish himself but as soon as he did this happens. whats the bet a trengrove type will be taken early at geelong.

He made a big difference to them, claws, because he fully freed Scarlett. But they knew he was gone last year.

I always thought the Harry Taylor selection by the Cats was a little weird, but maybe now it makes more sense.

Which is why they recruited Harry Taylor.

Agree, Streak.

I don't know what they were doing in Darwin, but I was actually at the gym with James Kelly and Matthew Egan this morning. Egan looks fit as a fiddle - until he walks. Then he moves like an 80 year old cripple. Poor bugger.
