Matty Knights 250th

That was Kayne Pettifer's first game, and he got involved in goals as soon as he left the bench. He looked the goods and Knights walked off the ground by his side - the old generation leading the new generation.

A great example of how we set huge expectations on our kids and then feel let down when they don't become genuine champions.

In the social club after Knighter's last game they had the great man up on stage so the big crowd could give him another 3 cheers. In the corner was an extremely tearful Kayne Pettifer very upset than he didn't get a chance to win the game for Matty in those dying seconds. I'm sure we all remember the finish........

He was distraught and I spoke to him about it (tactfully of course) at this years B & F. He said he was so sorry he couldn't get the 4 points for Knighter that night after playing his first game with him and the fact that the guy is an icon at Tigerland.

I have always had a great deal of time for Kayne since I saw him in the social club that night and will continue to follow his progress with interest. That may go against the internet experts on here that believe he should be strung up for not winning 12 games a year off his own boot? Truthfully, I couldn't care less. He struck me as a young man who's really busting a gut to become a regular contributor to the side.

I'm pretty sure Matty would have been pleased to see Kayne have such a good year last season.

I'm looking forward to watching 'Pets' kick on in '06'.

kayne is pretty good at the crying thing, he looks like he is crying after every stuff up. you always know what he is thinking

Part of Kayne's problem since the early days ... He is too hard on himself and lets it affect his game. I think he has turned this around in season 2005 though which is why he performs more consistently these days.

Good post Missing

Broke my heart that night ... and Pets to as well .

The footy gods just would not smile on us .

I have absolutely no doubt that when plough gets our "Mach 5" midfield up and running in the next couple of years that Pets will be a more than capable forward who will notch 40-50 a year on the back of some decent delivery

I admire the kid simply for the fact that in his early days it was well noted he had a bit an attitude problem but he has addressed that , worked his @rse off and is really putting in some hard yards to get the best out of himself , for which he is starting to bear the fruits .

Will only get better

If it was 2001, Richmond beat the Swans !

But Knighter played his last game in 2002 against Essendon.

I think this is the game being referred to.

I thought Pets played his first games in 2001. Knight's last game was against Essendon in 2002, but his 250th wasn't his last game. Pedantry aside I can remember the way people reacted to Knight's 250th and Paul Broderick's as well and contrast that with Campbell's milestone which went past with more of a whimper than a bang.

I thought it was straight forward?

Knights played his 250th against Sydney and in the same game Pettifer played his first. We won Knighters 250th and lost his last. Pettifer had the slight chance to get us across the line in his last game but he didn't. He was upset.

Sorry I mentioned it.
