I've had a change of heart recently, I was all for getting Kerr, but its better to draft our own stars.

I believe this year if we could somehow get an extra first rounder, we'd be in good stead.

How could we manage that? Keeping in mind we should have 5 picks minimum this year imo.

All I know is we need a gun key forward....not unhappy with the potential of the other area's(except Ruck but you can fluke one of them anywhere ;)) Our young key forwards is ordinary an we need a gun to rise up the ladder

The only con about that is they'll need about 4 years to develop :-\

Just throwing this up here, but would anyone consider trading Connors?

Absolutely not!
That goes against the whole idea of using the draft and getting young players. Even more so if you say it can take some picks 4 years to develop.
It's from now on we can expect Connors to show his worth.

Hope so, was just throwing it up there, it's just that his work-rate worries me sometimes.

Agree entirely!

There are probably 3 key areas where an early draft pick should be used. Alot of it is going to depend on who's available when we have our pick.

Well it's a good balance.

We have plenty of hard workers with medium talent, and our guns are a combination of both.

We don't have many talented types who we are crossing our fingers with (just Collard and Connors).

threw a similar trade up involving tambling and the ferals went crazy.

You wouldnt get much for Connors anyway. He was pick 58 or something like that and has only played 4 AFL games. I am a fan of the kid but the only thing he has done so far is take a few screamers in the VFL. He is much more valuable to us than say pick 50 in this years draft.

does anyone know how the draft will operate in 2009 or 2010? have the rules been set down yet?

Probably to join his little brother Elljay.

We will take Armitage for him. If not they arent getting him.
Or their first rounder. But yep agree.

Armitage has not been given a good run with Saints.
He is a tough nut and a good footballer and would be a great pick up for us but I doubt the saits r going to part with him for connors.

if we can still get top 30 for shultz, take it. Only other trade I can see getting us extra in the first round is Tambling, and I can see arguments both ways for that. Have to disagree with CC's notion that we have no key forwards, I reckon Reiwolt will hold down CHF in a premiership. I reckon Kerr would be a ripper. Not only is he a champ but he is (2) tough as buggery and (3) young enough to take norm smith in a couple of flags for us. I'd put up our first round pick and a shultz-type for him.

I don't believe we have the luxury of trading Shultz as he is one of the few big body players we have. Imagine if we did trade him last year, with Polak out as well, there would have been a gap in the team that we could not have filled.
