The article doesn't indicate he's available (yet), but if Port think they are a chance right now to lure him into a full-time Assistant role, then I hope Richmond doesn't leave any stone unturned doing the same, or better, for Head Coach role.

I was hoping Hird would put his hand up for the coaching job.
When he was asked about it he said he was happy where he was at the moment. :P

The way the Bombers are failing in the latter part of this season strongly suggests he maybe called into to take over from Matthew Knights.

The only thing stopping him is that he played with some of Essendon's more senior players and to now be their coach could represent some problems......

Buckley? Voss is putting it into practice this season seemingly adequately enough.

Poses another question though, do we try to bring Knighta back to Richmond as an assistant if he gets the shove from Essendon?

Whether you are a fan of wooing Hird or not, one thing I wouldn't be worried about is him going to Port. Good luck to them, they'll need it.

Forget coaching, put him on a half forward flank!!

Odd of him going to Port would be 50,000-1.

NOTE TO PORT CEO

Port is no chance to get Hird so give it up now - DD said so ;D

Wonder if he gets asked the question tonight on the "On the Couch" show on Fox.???

Just like Buckley he's done nothing. No thanks.

Not gonna happen. Hird is at least a semi-realistic possibility, and I would hope that the club at least looks into it. From what I have seen in his leadership capabilities on-field, and his analysis in the media, he proves to be a worthy candidate (given the success of Voss, and anticipated success of Buckley).

I still don't get the desire of some people to appoint someone who's shown no desire to be a coach

Pfft, who's talking desire? He's a proven leader, has ambition that some here couldn't even recognise, what he says publically and what he does quietly are two very different things. Sorry he hasn't sprayed it on a wall for you ;D
