I went along to this game last night.

Very entertaining game played in slippery conditions, typical of Darwin at this time of year. The weather was very 'tropical', humid & steamy with rain around. In the last 10 minutes of the game the heavens opened and a very classy mark and kick for goal by Robertson won the day for the Ds.

Melbourne stared very fast and almost before you knew it they had 4 on the board (two gems from A.Davey - one of yours truly's fave players outside RFC). After this the game became more of a slog, but, surprisingly, Melbourne were the classier outfit (after all the hype surrounding the doggies). They got heaps of clearances and were simply cleaner. As well as this they had players like Davey, Yze and Motlop who consistently found space and run and bombed it long inside 50.

The Dogs tried hard all night and tackled and contested fiercely, which got them in front in the third, but their skills were a few notches below Melbourne on the night.

Considering the conditions, and the pace of the game (frenetic, especially the last qtr!!) a few boys will very tired today. My guess is that the Melboune will have a hard time coming up against Brissie next week.

Score: Dogs 1.7.12 63
Ds 0.9.15 69

Best
Melbourne: Davey, Robertson, Yze, Whelan, Motlop, Pickett

Dogs: Murphy, Giansircusa, Gibee, West ??

I watched this game last night and was very happy to see Clint Bartram making his debut. I work very close with his father who was also ecstatic and nervous to see his son to have a run.

Clint's inspiration is his father, considering what he's been through over the last couple of years - your a legend Steve. :clap

Maybe Interested can shed a bit more light on this young lad.

Went along too Djevv.  Very entertaining evening.  If any of you "down southers" ever get the chance to attend an AFL game at Marrara don't pass up the opportunity.

Two things stood out as drastically different to a Melbourne game -
1. Half way through the last quarter we were hit with a typical tropical downpour ... and nobody cared, everyone was too pissed.
2. With five minutes to go the scores were level ... and nobody cared, everyone was too pissed.

Very funny stuff and a different perspective on what a night at the footy means to different groups.

used to go there quite often 10-12 years back to watch my buffs play. its a great precinct on a sat arvo. rugby union and footy right next to each other ;)

is Pints still there boyz?

Yeah, thats about right. The last 5 or so minutes were funny. I was in the outer, on the flank when it really started to pour. I finally got under cover next to the bar and everyone was staring out into the downpour trying to figure out what was going on. At this point scores were level. It was like, 'wheres the ball? wheres the ball?

You would stare out at the ground for a while try to pick out what was going on, then give up. The final siren was an anti-climax really. I didn't hear it. Anyway, a good time was had by all, thats the main thing!
