Melbourne's should up end up with picks 1,17,18,34,50. etc
The way some of the kids are coming on some established or now redundant players need to be moved or used for better picks.
Who is surplus to our needs? I'm sure Craig or Claw will have a long list!

Bp. King Thursty McGuane
hb. Moore Shulz Jordy
c. Tambo tuck Richo
hf. Morton cleve Cotch
ff Brown riew edwards
r Simmo foley lids
Bench white,Johnno,Polak,Connars

By round 15-22 this could be roughly our best team.
bowden ...... If doesn't make it back in team will be traded or let go at years end.
Petts.......... Definately out of favour with wallace ditto bowden
Raines......I think too many in front of him. Could have some trade value if coupled with Petts.
Cogs........Wil wait and see how he comes back. No trade value, so maybe a one year contract.
Meyer......Ditto Cogs
Tivvers.....Delist
Hyde........Delist to many kids coming on.
Patto......Not sure on Patto maybe one more year, while gus and putt develop...but if he helped to get us pick 17 would be gone.
Jacko......Could be handy for the lockdown role Johnno/ and Hydey play.
Polo......Same as Jacko
Jon....... Would be an interesting one , would have to watch his form late in the year.
Cass..... Hopefully he's pushing for a spot late in the year or really he's only taking up room on the list.

Not alot to help us get pick 17 off Melb, Maybe Polak, or Tucky or a combination of Raines and petts but would be good to get another early pick in what is supposed to be a superdraft. Maybe they could take Jordy!

Good post richards. The only one I think I'd change is have Patto in for Hughes.
I don't know what it is but I just don't rate Hughes at the moment.
Petts to Melbourne or West Coast for a second round pick and a third for Raines are about the only trade bait we've got I reckon.

I hope Patto comes on as much as anyone (especially because he was a pick we got for Ottens) Just have my doubts if he can play key position, especially since chf now seems to be not used as much.If Angus and Putt come on it will make it hard for Patto as I'm not sold on his rucking ability, but happy to be proved wrong.
With White being near the end of his career Patto mite have some trade value.

The #1 reason we have turned our form around is selflessness.

Character, leadership, playing the team.... I know we haven't seen it over the past few decades but now that we have it we can't trade it away.

That is why I laugh to myself when I read Adam Pattison's name in these threads ;)

The only way the Dees will trade these picks is for top quality young players (which is more than we will offer), or if they spend too long throwing down tequila shots at the pre-trade week drunken barn dance.

Nice dream, but this ain't gunna happen.

The only people that should be traded at years end are the players with *smile* poor attitudes. They are an infection on the team, distracting and disrupting, what should be, a proffesional culture.

Pattison is one player who seems to be a professional. Whereas Petts, unless he adds defensive pressure to his game and changes his attitude, will be a serious trade prospect.

Bowden: We don't need to alienate all of our players (ala *smile* and Knights). And if he isn't in our best 22 he is still good value for depth in the team.
Patto: Keep. Works hard, good skills. Gus and Putt are no certainties, especially Graham (at his best probably only a 3rd Tier Ruck when he peaks).

The only way Patto will struggle to make the side is if we can get a Top Tier Ruck from this years draft (e.g. Natanui (sp?)). And thats not going to happen as (a) won't get a low enough pick, (b) Richmond never seem to take a ruckman above pick 50 and (c) Richmond will be targeting an inside midfielder and maybe a talented HHF/B to replace Johnson and Brown in the future. Maybe a highly talented KPP they drop down to us (e.g. Trengrove/Hurley).

Petts is the only trade at the present time (that may change) and he will only command a 2nd rounder at best.

We had pick 19 last year.. :stir

I like this :hihi we may need this plus a whole lot of luck. Bailey looks like the type who won't give an inch.

The only team that would trade a pick like that is...us...and you cant trade with yourself.

No way will the dees trade away there picks.

they have too much deadwood. Melbourne supporter base will decrease sharply over the next two years particularly if they perform badly. By then the picks would be useless, as club would be in the red for the two years or more, with alot of pressure for existence. Financial gain/position is very important for the dees at this stage.

With the Polak trade, there are 10 blokes before him to go first.

Petts might be easier to sell to someone like the Aints (if they still think they're close ) - they've got their talls, they often seem be on the verge of losing patience with Milne... and despite his deficiencies, Petts did kick a lot of goals and i50s last year despite playing in a wooden spoon team with the worst midfield. So the says pitch would be "he's a good player, just not right for the RFC at this stage of our development. But imagine if you had a 50 goal a year HFF complementing your power forwards. You'll be playing Geelong for the flag in now time"

looks like warnock wants out of freo , why trade petts or polo for warnock & chuck in tivers as a bonus

Draft picks will be kept very close this year. I don't expect any major draft picks to be dealt. More player swaps. Polo for Warnock has some legs. Freo will be desperate to inject some youth into the oldest legs in the AFL. For some reason Harvey loves GIlmore as a running ruck option to spell Lurch.

I would've thought player for player trading wouldn't stop at all.
But to get an early draft pick, you're really going to have to pay with a very good player.
