PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I suffered a major disappointment pre-game at the 'G on Friday night. I haven't bought my membership yet this year, so when I saw the membership tent near gate 1 I thought I'd finally do so. When I asked the girl at the table if they had an eftpos facility available I was shocked to be told they didn't. I rarely carry more than $20 in cash with me (unless I'm at the pub!) and I don't have a credit card, so I can't purchase a membership online.

I still intend to buy my membership, but I think the club may be missing out on the opportunity for a number of new members if such a simple and accepted service like eft is not available. I think there's a fair chance that people who may have wanted to buy a membership before the match wouldn't have felt the same way afterwards! Surely it wouldn't be that hard to have a mobile eftpos service available; I know many people who don't carry cash with them, and I think the club are being irresponsible by not doing everything they can to make it as easy as possible for people to sign up.

I'm an MCC member, so it would be cheaper for me just to pay at the gate at Telstra for the games we play there that I can actually go to, but I want to do the right thing by the club and support them by buying a membership even if I won't use it all that often (except when we play Melbourne, can't stand being in the members' area with their supporters ::) )

I just thought I'd voice my disappointment because if this has happened to me I'm sure it's happened to others. If this sort of problem costs the club even 100 members, then there's $16000 off the bottom line. Membership's too important to clubs these days to do things in such a half arsed manner. If the merchandise van can have eftpos, why can't our membership tent be the same? Though I didn't check the situation at their tent, I can't imagine Collingwood not having such a simple service available. It strikes me as unprofessional, and makes me wonder whether other areas of the club are dealt with in a similar manner.

Guess I'll have to make sure I visit an ATM before the game this week.
