My mum is an 87 years old pensioner and can't go to any matches because the crowd noise and the steps etc are too much for her, but she still buys her membership each year. She watches every match on TV and is definitely a true ferocious tiger. ;D
I'M A CHEF AND HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR 10 YEARS THIS COMING YEAR.IVE ONLY BEEN TO 2 GAMES THE LAST 4YEARS. I WILL STILL BUY MY MEMBERSHIP THIS YEAR BECAUSE I LOVE THE RICHMOND F.C AND WILL ALLWAYS SUPPORT MY CLUB.
Awesome. :clap I love hearing stuff like this and remembering why RFC is the best Club in the world. :gotigers

Agree, always considered myself a loyal supporter having been to just about every Victorian game in memory but it takes a special breed to chip in every year knowing you're going to get little or no tangible benefits in return.

Thats the key Scoop Fans/barackers compared to Members, im sorry to say barackers do FA for the club.Im so sick of meeting people who are mad tiges supporters who have barracked for them for years an then you ask them how long they have been members an they say ohh im not a member.
What about the barrackers who say ive got a jumper signed by KB  an a fake tigers sticker "GREAT"fat lot of use that do's the club.
An what about the clown down the pub who says "yellow an black blood in my veins" an then he says stuff like "yeah we should get rid of Richo kicks 1 goal in 5 weeks" but na im not a member.
Similar type is the one's who will watch the Tiges every week on tv an jump on the wagon when the rare good time s are here an can not stop talkin about the Tiges round the water fountain when we are winning.
Sorry if I offend anyone but I cant have the cant afford it crap IF you are truly passionate about the Tiges you can scrape up a few bucks to get some kind of membership.
Once again if you are not truly Passionate fair enough that you aren't a member but if you call yourself Passionate there aint any excuse not to be a member.

Not everyone can afford a membership mate. You don't have to have a membership to be passionate. That is just ridiculous.

If you have financial difficulties and you have a concession card you can actually get a concession membership. They are fairly cheap especially if you use the rolling membership payment option. They divide the total into 12 equal payments. This would work out to be less than paying as you go I would think.

How can anybody use the word passionate when they do FA to help there so called passion, like Ive said before peolpe can barrack, follow, what ever you want to call it but dont call yourself passionate about our club, try tellin the 9000 paid up an passionate Fitzroy supporters it was sad when they folded.Where were there 30k+ barrackers an what use did they do when they were needed for there passion.

Dont forget in 04 we lost over 2 million $ imagine if we had 10,000 members who thought cause times were a bit tough I wont be a member an what if that happened for a couple more years, where would be then.

An even more scary senario is in the early 90s when if we didnt have passionate members an guys like Nev Crowe we simply would not be here now.I had the pleasure of speaking to Mr Crowe for a good hour the other day about this exact thing,an to listen to him talk passionatetly about how he thought we were gone an if not for the true faithful we would be simply extinct was amazing.
I ask this question to the non members do you love sittin at home or going to the footy to watch the Tiges?
Do you love getin in to your mates an family when we win?
Do you get excited at the start of each new season?
Will you sing the song with the rest of us when we win our next flag?

For christ sake memberships start at $20 an a full type of membership starts at as little as a stubby a week an the club has fantastic ways to pay it.

I certainly dont meem to offend but if you new my situation an what I do because of my passion you would understand why I am so passionate about this subject :gotigers

Do you have to ask especially at the club Heather?

The membership brochure says the categories that qualify are....Pension Card, aged/single parent/ disability.  Student Card or veteran affairs.  People with financial difficulties are more likely to have a Health Care Card and the brochure clearly states that doesn't qualify for concession membership.  You can use one to get concession entrance at the gates though.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has managed to get a membership with a Health Care concession card.

CC I am as passionate about memberships as you.  I'm proud that so many people have told me they've become members because of the passion and drive on PRE but I'll never judge others for their personal choice not to get one.

My mother has been a  Tiger all her life and used to attend training and all the games as a girl.  She wouldn't dream of going to the footy now.  She keeps track of how the club is travelling and talks about the club at church etc but she's not interested in being a member.  Each to their own but I'm still grateful of the passion she gave me for the Tiges.

We have 29,000 members yet can get 40,000 to a big game. They're obviously not members but they are still doing their bit in their own way. I wish they'd all sign up too but I understand that not everyone shares my pasison about it.

I don't think it should be a matter of criticising and judging but more one of creating an environment that more people want to be a part of....as well as dropping a few quiet reminders of why the club needs members.

I've got both a Student card and a Health Care Card...and I've only ever been asked for my student card. Which annoyed me, cos I don't see why I have to prove my concession to the MCG when I've already proved it to the Tigers...but oh well.

Its hardly compelling evidence...but I suspect you can't get one with a Health Care Card.

Rosy as you would know I am a fair man ;D seriously I never like to critisise anyone over there beliefs, but this to me is my most passionate beef an I just like to fly the flag a little on this subject.
I just wonder how people like your mother would feel if we had to fold because we had no money :D

I bought a friend of mine a concession membership a couple years back an the concession didnt have to be shown when purchasing the membership just when entering games

I have a full 17 game membership but my son is a student and I get him a concession membership. The club have never asked me for evidence of concession, he just graduated from a kids membership. He does get asked at the gate though. I just thought that if anyone qualifies it might be an option if they don't have the funds to buy a full membership.

A little disappointed to hear certain people criticising Richmond supporters just because they arent members. I would say a high percentage of those who regularly attend games would get a membership as it is cheaper and does go to the RFC. But for those who dont go regularly, it is often because they cant afford to go regularly. Just look around you at a footy game. Footy is the leveller. There are people of all backgrounds, ethnically, social status, financial capacity attending. What about those who love their footy, dont have alot of money, but value a worthy charity above propping up a footy club? Does this make them less worthy supporters?

There has been far too much generalisation by many here on this topic, and every person has their right to buy or not buy a membership and not looked down on because of their preference. In my opinion of course.

Geez CC now that you put it like that I think I won't bother with a membership. Can't remember a stubby ever letting me done like the RFC does.

You must be one of them amatuer drinkers jb. I've met plenty of stubbies that have let me down. They're always those toxic last ones you have when you are too pissed to know better that come back up :partyfest :beer :vomit to haunt you when you are weak and defenceless.
I reckon there has gotta be a sneaky lowlife that gets around late at pissups and tampers with the last few beers just to make people crook

the concession discussion is an interesting one. my girlfriend has a student card but she doesn't use it when purchasing her 11 game richmond membership. nor should you if you can afford a full membership because it's the club that loses out. on the other hand, she does use it when she comes to away games as the opposition gets the gate takings :hihi

the same goes my brother. he's a roos supporter and he's just become eligible for a health care card and wouldn't ever dare use it to buy a cheaper roos membership.

So wait a second, Ian...instead of condemning people for NOT buying memberships, you're condemning them for not buying the RIGHT membership now? Could you clarify that for me?

Yes, I'm a concession membership holder who could afford the extra $120 for an equivalent full membership...but I choose not to, because I need the money for other things.

You CANNOT use Health Care cards to purchase memberships, it is an AFL rule and nothing to do with any of the clubs.

The policy was brought in years ago with the reasoning that unemployed people get these cards, and they may purchase a cheaper membership with one and then get a job and lose the card, but still have the membership - and the AFL doesn't want to lose the (obviously immense amount of) revenue in this circumstance....... ::)

nah mate, i'm not condemning anyone for getting a concession membership. infact i think it's very admirable that people chip in their hard earned when/if they can barely afford it. but there are people out there who will take advantage of the concession membership when they can afford full price (i used my girlfriend as an example who doesn't short change the club, even though she has the opportunity to)
